Re: Monday, December 10, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Did anyone else find that they did way better on the bottom half of the board than the top half, especially in the DJ round?
B-L-T category killed me, even though I usually do well in the letter-based categories. And I kept drawing blanks on the movie directors. I kept sputtering Michael B-B-B-B. Just one vowel sound away. (I think I missed the fourth clue too, but I should've gotten it.) I assume the Coen brothers also would have been an acceptable response.
FJ was an instaget. "The Bridge of San Luis Rey" is one of my favorites. I wonder how much spelling would've mattered on that one. I also have a tendency to call it "The Bridge Over San Luis Rey," but I managed to keep it straight while sitting at home. I think the string of poorly written/weird FJ clues is over, as I've gotten the last five.
Didn't matter, but not a great wager for the three-spot player.
Congrats to the champ! Semi-slow start but a dominating performance.

Does anyone else think no one rang in on "West Germany" because it seemed too obvious to be that close to the bottom of the board?

I suspect that's what happened, but it was really the only country that it could be, you know?thenextofken wrote:Does anyone else think no one rang in on "West Germany" because it seemed too obvious to be that close to the bottom of the board?
As soon as the question flashed for FJ, I said to myself, "None of them are getting anywhere near this." Then Josh got it, so nice job!

Yes, decidedly. And I didn't care much for the alliteration category, probably because a little alliteration goes a long, long way.thenextofken wrote:Does anyone else think no one rang in on "West Germany" because it seemed too obvious to be that close to the bottom of the board?

Really? I had to read it in... 9th grade I think?; and hated it. Maybe I owe it a revisit?falsifieddocuments wrote: FJ was an instaget. "The Bridge of San Luis Rey" is one of my favorites.

Am I crazy, or on the first clue of the DJ round, did Joel say "cherubu"? He repeated it twice, saying "cheater cherubu" the first time, then "cherubu cheater", both times pronouncing cherub as if it rhymed with caribou. Maybe Alex could have thought he said "a cherub who cheats" or something like that, but there was pretty clearly an "oo" sound there that did not belong.

no clue on FJ so future contestants might want to take a look and familiarize with ML 100 best novels.

Count me as one of those who answered" The Bridge OVER San Luis Rey." To quote Roberto de Vicenzo, " What a stupid I am."

I heard cherubim, plural of cherub. I am thinking Alex was expecting the singular.Paucle wrote:I heard cherubin. But my hearing ain't the best.jeff6286 wrote:Am I crazy, or on the first clue of the DJ round, did Joel say "cherubu"?

I believe he said "cherubim" both times. It's plural so it doesn't really go, but I guess it isn't exactly wrong, either.jeff6286 wrote:Am I crazy, or on the first clue of the DJ round, did Joel say "cherubu"? Thought of Bridge of San Luis Rey right away, then debated whether it was Over or On before ultimately going with the right one. Luckily something stuck with me from the one time I read it, although I couldn't tell you anything else about the plot.
Congrats to Josh!

Re: Monday, December 10, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Duh. The plural of cherub never occurred to me, as I thought I heard that "oo" sound the first time, and therefore couldn't hear anything else. I usually watch with CC on, which likely would have cleared up my confusion, but I had it off on this occasion and didn't feel like turning it on to check. Now I wish I had so that maybe I could have avoided looking stupid by making the post here. Though at least I did preface it with "Am I crazy or...", giving myself a bit of wiggle room.
