You do know that the NFL regular-season doesn't begin until the week after Labor Day, right?

econgator, take note of the post's author. I'm pretty sure he was posting in his second language, chelinguek.

That's the risk I take when I use the straight-faced innocence emoticon.

dhkendall lives in Winnipeg. When the publication in question referred to "Jets fans" it was probably referring to the NHL team by that name (the former Atlanta Thrashers).
And considering dhk actually mentioned the NHL in his post...

I am really confused now. My peeve was about the misuse of the word 'myself'.

I meant what you (and Rex) found wrong with the Jets fans example.
So why not call it Rex's peeve? He said it first (and better).

That's the emoticon I use most often.

If I had 50 cents for every math question I got right, I'd have $6.30 by now.

A couple has a goal: over the course of their relationship, see every major league team play, live. As a former sportswriter, he has lots of ticket contacts in various stadiums.
One day she calls out to him, "Hey, I've found a couple more games that fit our schedule, on our Labor Day weekend and those 4 days we take at Thanksgiving. We can knock off four more teams."
"What've you got? I'll check my contacts." She calls out the 2 contests - just the team names, not their locales (e.g., "Wildcats at Spartans, Minutemen hosting Green Wave.") He reaches for his cell to start making calls, and realizes... he has no idea who to call!

What 2 games did she mention? (As near as I can tell, there's only one 4-team combo that fits all the aspects of the puzzle.)
Spoiler
Cardinals vs. Giants (works at either location) for the Labor Day game; Panthers at Jets (either location) for Thanksgiving
Well this went straight over my head. Would someone be kind enough to explain?

He doesn't know if he's seeking passes for AZ Cardinals @ football Giants or StL Cardinals @San Francisco Giants or, Florida Panthers @ Winnipeg Jets or Carolina Panthers @ football Jets.

That's what confused me. It said every "major league team". To me, that meant solely baseball. So I couldn't figure out how they were seeing a game over Thanksgiving or how you could have a similarly-named team. It needs some rewording to clarify it.

That threw me at first, too, Andy, but the Thanksgiving game time was the giveaway, since the MLB season is long over by then, which led me to the more expansive interpretation of the term.

Ah, yes, with that erroneous assumption, you'd never be able to solve it.

"Major League" baseball. "Major League Baseball" = baseball. Check out any logo of theirs. None of them say simply, "ML." They never abbreviate themselves "ML," they always add the "B."
Major league means = "not minor league."
Could I say professional? Oops. Pro = any paid league. Heck, most NCAA Div 1 teams qualify using that criteria.
I guess when I posed this before I clarified Major Leagues as MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL. Of course, the level of intellect at other sites isn't nearly so high as here. ;)

That's how I see it usually too in "smart" sites I frequent like Sporcle and I think Jeopardy! uses the term too.
"Jeopardy! is two parts luck and one part luck" - Me

"The way to win on Jeopardy is to be a rabidly curious, information-omnivorous person your entire life." - Ken Jennings

FTR, I also identified a couple of ambiguous names that just didn't have a partner for this dance:
Spoiler
Kings (Sacto/LA) and Rangers (NY/TX)
Are there any others that I missed? Thinking about it, and assuming only two sport combinations, there are 6 different "flavors" of which I can only find 4 examples (and only two of which have two examples needed for this puzzle)

Pro means the players are paid, so that knocks NCAA out, but puts minor leaguers back in.

And how does MLS fit into all this? :D
