I didn't so much volunteer as much as suggest that people post here. That being said, I could do the scoring, but not until Wednesday at the earliest. However, of the few that haven't posted yet, I know I've seen Paucle and mennoknight (and I think dott) post recently, so hopefully we can still get their responses at the least.

Thanks for the heads-up, gftt!

From my entry PM:
Spoiler
Hopefully I can survive my tendency to not follow the club game quite as closely as the international game. Let's see how it goes.

_1: Barthez? (1998; I know the 3 since, but I'll try to stretch a little further back...)
_2: Borussia Dortmund
_3: Hungary
_4: Clint Dempsey
_5: Cuiaba
_6: Ukraine (2006, rd of 16 vs. SUI)
_7: Nigeria (2000)
_8: Nicaragua (2 or 3 editions ago, I think)
_9: Iran (2006)
10: Zeno?? (No idea about the sketch, but seems like a semi-safe enough guess.)
11: Salenko (1994)

12: Wenger
13: Miami?
14: Iraq (2007)
I'm slightly embarrassed that I actually mixed up the years for the Olympic champs in question 7. (My answer won in 1996; their next-door neighbors won in 2000.) Glad it didn't affect the correctness of the answer.

And of course, it looks like I was ultimately sunk by my ignorance not of club soccer but of Monty Python (the only question not involving any actual soccer knowledge). Oh, well.

Presumptive congrats to chalupabatman on a well-deserved win!

(Also, the karmic appropriateness that the reveal would go uncompleted in a TD I'm doing well in is not lost on me.)

That leaves only paulsaysthought, who hasn't visited since June 24. He is probably a puppet account of the original host for this game, so it is probably best to continue without him. I should be able to get to scoring next week some time if no one else wants to do it before then.

Q: Name any player who's won the Golden Boot at the World Cup. (25 answers)[/spoiler]
CORRECT ANSWERS

Ronaldo - 2002 (6 points)
chalupabatman786
CheezeWhiz
CoachP
MarkBarrett
DadofTwins
xxaaaxx

Miroslav Klose - 2006 (2 points)
goforthetie
mennoknight

Oleg Salenko - 1994 (1 point) Interesting factoid: Salenko was the only Golden Boot winner whose team did not advance out of the group stage AND the six goals he scored in the World Cup are the only goals of his international career. Of the six goals, five were scored against Cameroon, which is the World Cup single game record.
dklee12

Paolo Rossi - 1982 (1 point)
Turd Ferguson

Muller - 1970 (Gerd) and 2010 (Thomas)
econgator (Not sure which Muller you meant, but seeing as it was a singleton, it doesn't matter.)

INCORRECT ANSWERS (11 POINTS)
jjwaymee - Zinedine Zidane (won Golden Ball as best player in 2006, and finished in an eight-way tie for second-highest goalscorer with 3 goals)

ihavejeoprosy - Pele (two-way tie for second in 1958)
zakharov - Romario (won Golden Ball in 1994 and finished in four-way tie for third-most goals with current U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann)
CrunchyTaco - Ronaldinho (named to 2002 All-Star team, but never in top 3 goalscorers)
geolawyerman - Lionel Messi (won Golden Ball in 2014, not that we knew that when this TD originally ran)
tjconn728 - David Villa (four-way tie for most goals in 2010, but lost Golden Ball to Thomas Muller on tiebreaker)
dnbguy - Diego Maradona
mitchparov - Roberto Baggio (tied for third-most goals in 1994)
Leander - Diego Maradona
dott888 - Diego Maradona
jepkid97 - Pele
Bamaman - Pele
gamawire - Pele
JoshuaRQI - Zinedine Zidane

The Substitutes

If you recall all the way back to June when the TD was first set up, the last three questions were substitutes, in that a low score on any of these questions would replace a higher scoring correct answer on the first 11. Rather than go through all the answers, I'll just list the correct ones and any corresponding replacements.

12. While the Premier League is the top flight of England, no English-born manager has ever won the league - the last English manager to win at the top level in England was Howard Wilkinson, who hoisted the old First Division title at Leeds United in 1991/92, the year before the Premiership's founding.

Q: Name any manager who has won the Premiership since its founding in the 1992/93 season. (7 answers)
CORRECT ANSWERS

Sir Alex Ferguson (9 points)

Nine points isn't low enough to warrant a replacement for anyone, but give yourself a pat on the back for coming up with a correct answer.
