Magna wrote:Question 9. OK, you know what comes after all that lovey-dovey stuff. Name a baby born to any character during the time periods covered by the show. Both the baby and parent must be named characters and both must appear on screen while the baby is still an infant.
The time frame may have been a bit tricky on this one, and to be honest I probably could have just simplified things by leaving that out. The show's main time frame began when Claudia swam onto the island from a wrecked ship thousands of years earlier, and ended when Hurley took over. So virtually every named character was born during this time period. The hitch was that the parent also had to be a named character, and that the baby had to be shown on screen. Because babies aren't usually the center of dramatic focus, it might have been harder to remember which were shown on screen and which were only mentioned. Roughly 2/3 of you sheeped on Aaron, while a few brave souls clumped around Ben, leaving the rest to pick off some singletons.

Most of the show's characters had a dark or violent side. Charlie shot Ethan, Ana Lucia shot Shannon, Locke put a knife in Naomi's back, Sayid tortured Sawyer, and so on. And maybe every once in a while you might have wanted to kick a few of them in the shins for their sheer stupid willfulness. :) Most of them managed to remain sympathetic, but a few managed to cross the line into villainy. Not everyone shown here was equally a "baddie," of course. Martin and Mikhail were pure psychopaths, but Nikki and Michael were reasonably helpful to their friends. They did each manage to murder two people, though, earning them a spot on this list.

The numbers are visible as a series at the bottom of the carvings. (Actually, not all are visible in this photo, but it's clearly a continuing series.)

I'll get back to scoring and revealing answers early next week. In the meantime, you can catch up with this 8-minute humorous recap of the first five seasons. (And if you're really, really hooked, you can watch Jimmy Kimmel's end-of-series special.)

Enjoy!

This question boiled down to "Name a sympathetic main character." In typical Lost style there's no plot explanation for the absence of some characters. Was it some kind of carefully worked-out plot device in which the writers making subtle comments about the meaning of life and the universe? Was it based on which characters the audience liked most? Or were the actors just unavailable that day? It's another unanswered mystery! (My vote is with #2 and #3.)

Here's a clip of the show's first scene, and of the closing scene in the church, so you can confirm your guesses. (The church scene starts at 2:11.)

I thought those three might have been a bit too obvious.

When we went to Hawaii in March, that church was our first stop on our self-designed LOST filming locations tour. It's part of a Catholic girls' school; one of the employees saw me taking pictures outside and let us in the church. It's quite lovely.

This question would have been easier if you had given us the number of possible answers. I wasn't sure if Emmy Awards were limited to three or four producers (like the Oscars) or if other producers would also be named recipients. I guess I could have reasoned it out, that you wouldn't set a TD question with only three or four correct responses.

OK folks, that's it for the regular questions. I'll post bonus answers and results a bit later. In the meantime, please review your answers and scores, and let me know about any errors - because once I start posting results, all bets are off! :)

In the meantime, I stumbled on a couple of clips I thought you might enjoy. Some really loved the writing and the directions the show went in, and considered the writing very tight and well-plotted. One fan edited together all the footage surrounding Oceanic 815's crash, showing how it all fit together logically and chronologically, and the result is quite impressive.

Others thought the writers were just making it up as they went along. The pranksters at How It Should Have Ended put together this spoof poking fun at the writing and plot. Even if you admired absolutely everything about the show, it's still good for a chuckle. :D

I agree it might have been easier, but then again many of the credited producers aren't that well known so maybe not easier for most people. Also, I think this came up recently on this board, in the Broadway TD and maybe a couple of others, but the number of people who get production credit on a show can run pretty high.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

OK...I can-

AHAHAHAHA...

out of my system...

I dropped this question because for the life of me I couldn't remember anyone other than Abrams and Lindelof, and was worried the latter would be an ultra-sheep, so I figured pushing the button would be a safe choice, barring something crazy like 45 entrants. Then once I started watching The Strain, I was kicking myself for not remembering Carlton Cuse. As it turns out, I would've scored 7 either way!

hahahahahahahaha...
