Match Game 7: Nothing New Here

Post by gamawire »

I was looking through the TD archive and ran across Vanya’s second hosted TD (TD7 from the old boards). His questions seem conducive to Match Game, so I am using them in toto.

The Rules:

Try to give the most popular answer.
No research allowed.
Submit your scores by PM before 11PM EDT, Wednesday, December 17, 2014.
Ties will be broken by order of entry.

The Scoring (I am also using MrKid's Match Game 6 scoring system in toto):
500 pts for first
250 pts for 2nd
100 pts for 3rd
0 pts for any answer below 3rd.
• If 2 answers tie for first, both answers will be worth 500, but there will be no 250 answer; the 3rd place answer would be worth 100.
• If 3 answers tie for first, they'll all be worth 500 and all other answers (4th and below) will be worth 0.
• If 5 answers tied for 3rd, they will all be worth 100.

The Questions:
1. Name a famous quote from a movie.
2. Name a country-western singer.
3. Name a living American author.
4. Name an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.
5. Name a living movie star (female).
6. Name a dead movie star (male).
7. Name a woman tennis player who has won a grand slam tournament.
8. Name the silliest name given to a child by a celebrity.
9. Name a game show host other than Alex Trebek or Pat Sajak (past or present) (take that, Sony).
10. Name the silliest "reality/competition" TV show (past or present).
11. Name the coolest new technology.

I'm pretty sure TD7 was a Match Game.

Yes it was. For which I received much derision at the time ("Oh, it's just like Family Feud"). Nice to see match game (aka Sheep) finally catching on.

I'm not sure what Dorothy Gale's dog has to do with it, though.

I wasn't on the boards yet, so I didn't know that. I knew it seemed like it fit well!

List of participants added to post #1.

Get those entries in - lots of singletons still available. Wait...

In an interesting twist from my last performance, I'm going to try to pick the sheep, rather than singletons, this time.

Just wanted to point out that for my Match Game, the bullet points were examples of how ties would be handled, not an all-inclusive list. Assuming that you mean the same thing.

Yes - if any other scenarios come up, I will come up with an original response (something different for me in this game).

It might not be the best choice if I don't know a quote exactly, but will "close" movie quote responses all count the same, as long as one can tell which quote someone is trying to give?

e.g. would all these count together if they were a movie quote?

"He looks just like you, Poindexter!"
"Poindexter, he looks just like you!"
"He looks exactly like you, Poindexter!"

I'm going to go with scoring them separately. Perhaps a quote you're more certain of would serve you better?

Do we need to include the last name of the stupidly named celebrity kid? I have one in mind, but I don't know who the parents are.

Okay, thanks. Maybe if I remember, I'll clarify what I was asking about in the reveal.

Which would include going back and looking at the TD 7 thread, presumably. I hope no one did!

How about partial quotes versus whole quotes?

What if people know "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs" as well as just "The quick brown fox jumped"?

Still separate, I think. I would have to see one and judge it then.
