Sony hack and online test

Post by earendel »

It's about time for J! to announce the online test for January. I wonder if the hack may affect this - either postponing it or cancelling it completely.

Now I can pass the test and get selected for an audition. *evil laugh*

The hack didn't stop Sony from holding the Denver online test last week.

Looking at the website, that is for 2014.

Does anyone know about any upcoming online tests?

They'd announce it via the email list, and nothing has come out so far.

I'm surprised nobody has tried to go through those emails to see if there were any emails regarding contestant selection.

Again, what we want to learn from the hacks is *completely* different from what the general public (and the hackers themselves) want to know. I don't think the emails are really anywhere Jeopardy! nerds (read: anyone) can view are they? Just the media?

Oh no no...you "can" torrent them. I would advise against it though.

NBC News was reporting tonight that the hackers (whoever they may be) are threatening terrorist attacks on the order of 9/11 at the theaters showing The Interview. It's pretty easy to see that spinning out of control quickly if anything like that happens.

This is crazy, since when have we ever taken anything North Korea's done seriously? Pretty sure they threatened to bomb us/South Korea like 50 times last year.

The only predictable about North Korea is that they're unpredictable.

I read in the newspaper (yes they still exist) that some theaters were pulling the movie "The Interview" for fear of violent demonstrations.
What happened to freedom of expression?

Nothing. They just don't want their theaters blown up.

I read on the Internet that Sony has cancelled the movie because most theaters were pulling the movie for fear of terrorist threats of explosions.
I like newspapers too, but the online versions help me keep up.... ;)

It is both the theatres' right to pull it out of fear, and Sony's right to cancel in response, but personally, from experience (and I haven't seen any change to make me change this), any threat from North Korea (especially on the magnitude this one is) is likened to "a tale told by an idiot". ("Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing".)

It occurred to me that by delaying registration for the on-line test TPTB may seek to reduce the number of entries and 'concentrate' the pool of candidates as a means to select for the most avid fans that follow the show more closely. Or, maybe they e-mailed the tasking to someone on vacation and forgot about it... ;)

1. Have an extremely unusual name.

2. Tell a really cute story about how your cat loves Jeopardy!

3. Oh, and yeah, pass the test.
