Re: Tuesday, January 20, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
There was some contestant in either the Teen or College Tourney (can't remember which) that Alex mistakenly called "Adam," and he said, "My name's Andy," to the delight of the audience.
I said Beckett, but it was an insta-wag, to mesh two terms. I couldn't tell you a thing about Beckett otherwise.
I found Rebecca's ad-libbing rather annoying, but not as annoying as her DD wagering. I suspect that if she had won, she would've calmed down a bit on the next show. Sometimes the adlibbing can be charming, i.e. Carolyn Cracraft, but not if the player isn't playing well.

That video clue about the fish anesthesia warped my brain. I've never, ever heard of surgery being performed on a fish. It caused me to think why that would be so uncommon. It's because fish have to be under water to breath. When people's pet fish get sick, they either come out of it on their own or they just die. At least that's how it is in the real world.

It made me think of the turtle at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago - "Nickel", who swallowed a nickel at some point which has thrown off his internal ballast. He now swims at a pretty funky angle. That clue made me think "whoa, they do fish surgery! Why didn't they help a brother out after an unfortunate nickel accident! He's not even a fish!"Category 13 wrote:That video clue about the fish anesthesia warped my brain. I've never, ever heard of surgery being performed on a fish. So?
What led to "Temperature" in Fishy for $200 or "Cocaine" at $600?

The prefix "Therm-" in "thermography camera" means heat (thermometer, etc), and they also showed the thermal image output, which comes up pretty often in movies, like Predator for example.TenPoundHammer wrote:So?

Cocaine comes from the coca leaves grown in South America and is very addictive.
Re: Tuesday, January 20, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Oh, I didn't hear "therm-" in there at all. And the thermal image didn't register. I knew it was a thing, but not what kind of thing. I almost WAGged blood.OSXpert wrote:The prefix "Therm-" in "thermography camera" means heat (thermometer, etc), and they also showed the thermal image output, which comes up pretty often in movies, like Predator for example.

The latter, however, I outright didn't know. Cocaine could come from Jupiter for all I know or care.

Add me to the list of people who are glad Rebecca won't be playing again. I saw the movie on Becket a short time ago for the first time so that was lucky for me. And yes, it's excellent. Good categories but a tough show to watch. Too bad Nicholas didn't win a third time.

Add me to the list of those who got FJ, although it was only a guess - I couldn't think of anyone else around that time period who it might be.

My thought process was similar. It might literally be true that I only know of one famous clergyman from the 1100s.Magna wrote:Add me to the list of those who got FJ, although it was only a guess - I couldn't think of anyone else around that time period who it might be.

I didn't get to see the game yesterday, but the FJ was EASY. (You just need to keep your 1100s in mind and forget about your 1500s!) Of course, I would say that, being a descendant of the infamous William de Tracy. (Normally, I leave my sword at home.)

Instaget. "Religious, 1100s, gotta be Becket."
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

I know, most fish owners (including myself, frankly) treat fish as the Bic lighters of the pet world. (If your lighter stops working, it's better to just get a new one than fix the old one. Although, defying the odds, one of our fish is almost four and a half years old now (the rest are 18 months or less), she*'s become a somewhat fixture here, and despite goldfish living up to 30 years I've heard, I never expected one to last even this long (we've been through dozens of fish in the last ten years.)Silverfox wrote:They operate on fish? * I have no idea if that particular fish (or any of our fish) is a he or a she, I don't know how to sex them and I'm not that interested in learning how, as we just have them for pets, not breeding. We call her a "she" because we gave her a female name.

Don't feel badly, that is how our weak, meager, inefficient, error-prone biologic minds work. Amazing that they work well enough to retain anything at all.MarkBarrett wrote:
My response: Thomas More
I saw the clue and knew it was Thomas. Tonight my brain did Thomas More even though I've answered many previous clues about Becket correctly. During think time I was trying to remember things about Aquinas to make sure it was not him and never had Becket occur to me.
I'll blame the break in normal routine tonight and will take Goatman's punishiment as well as my own refresher courses through the archive.
Can we have something American tomorrow? Perhaps that will help me. Oh, and one more thing since I'm asking. Seeing all the DDs played would be nice as well.

After Rebeca's first spate of blathering, I blurted out "You're making our name look bad, stop it!" at the television. No matter how much you want to babble on that podium, keep the game moving.
