Champlain for Cartier cost me the x8

FJs had been so unkind to me of late that I didn't even realize I was 5/5 this week. It wasn't a hard set of clues, but I'll always take a 5/5 in regular play!

I answered hydrogen for Thursday's FJ - I've been working on memorizing the periodic table, but hadn't realized hydrogen isn't a noble gas.

I do believe that's a first. It was an easy week, but I'll take it.

Never read Frankenstein, couldn't come up with argon. My FJ! correct streak is at 5 because I said the Yukon River.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

The chapters in Frankenstein are really short.

If you'd like to add one more checkbox for this week, here's chapter 1 (and following) from Project Gutenberg.

There will be a ton of five-for-fives this week, but I will not be among them. There is no excuse for not following the dots to the Tour de France. Wasn't that tough, but I got stupid instead of systematic.

Didn't have a chance to find out if I would have known Wednesday's. I know, duct tape.

I've definitely heard of the other 3 but didn't make the connections.

I hesitate to put it in writing and jinx myself, but my streak right now is 14 correct FJs in a row. I have done this once before since I began keeping track, but that included the latest celeb week, and, as I mentioned here at the time, it probably only really counted for 9 in a row, given their softballs. Since I have written it down now, I may expect to miss the next one. This period of easy and/or serendipitous FJs can only last so long.

I'll take a 4/5 since that's at least three more than I average on any given week. I was nowhere near the correct response on Monday.

I had a streak of ten or more going, but then I got stuck on xenon and ran out of time on Thursday.

4/5. I looked at Friday's FJ on the clue of the day in the morning and misread it. Thought it was asking for an author. I might have gotten it right had I listened to Alex read the clue (I have read Frankenstein).

I thought Cartier, but didn't buzz because it always feels like I'm just throwing out a name whenever I guess a French explorer of North America.

I thank Tom Lehrer for putting the five "-on" noble gases together in a single line of "The Elements." I just have to remember to throw helium in when I recall it.

My FJ streak is at just five right now, but I have gone 5/5 in three of the last four weeks.

I graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2013. The School of Law, along with the rest of "Mr. Jefferson's University," can be found in Charlottesville, Virginia, a charming town nestled right at the foot of the Blue Ridge. That's irony there, folks.
