There were also a lot of negs that felt like wild, random guesses. Others have pointed out the attempts on "a country north of Bolivia". Another was the bizarre attempts on the "forgery" clue. Or "Who is Proteus" for a monstrous character in The Tempest.
The problem with some of the legal clues is that they're pretty vague. And the whole area of this kind of theft - embezzlement, false pretenses, forgery, etc. - they're pretty similar and the differences are sometimes pretty subtle, even for attorneys. Plus, sometimes the same crime is called different things in different states.
I'll be curious to go back and look at the wording because I have to admit that "forgery" didn't pop into my mind but "kiting" did. It looks like kiting is a little more sophisticated, but again, I wish the writers would stick to legal questions that are a little less ambiguous.
I think "Almost Before and After" would have been a good category in the JBoard Summer Hiatus Challenge, but most of those were very difficult to get in a few seconds.
Brutal game. My $15,000 Coryat is the lowest I've had in a very long time.
Got FJ, though. And I'm usually terrible at the wordplay categories (see quasi-related pairs at http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=5438), but I did get three of the five almost before and after.
Reviewing old J! shows on the Archive, found this one memorable.
Nice comeback by Asim in DJ! Unfortunately matched by Kylie's collapse.
Not understanding the hate for Almost Before & After. Easy money there.
Facepalm on Justin's guess on DD3. Never heard of the Springarn medals?
Definite 4th podium win with the FJ! get
