Vamos, Guitar Hero!
What were people laughing at when the "shift" category was introduced?
Will you accept "shape-shift" for "shape-shifter"? I made it up, but maybe there's a chance....

Got FJ with 5 seconds to go...because I spent 25 seconds staring at the screen, stunned, thinking "it cant be this easy..." and forgot to actually say something

Doubtful that it would be. It asked for the person, and that would be a shape-shifter.thejeopardyfan wrote:Will you accept "shape-shift" for "shape-shifter"? I made it up, but maybe there's a chance....
I was surprised that Dave didn't get a BMS on his response of "Indian" nickel. I've never heard it called anything but an "Indian head".
FJ was cake.

I've also seen "Remember" instead of Recall. I personally use Remember in that situation.econgator wrote:If I recall correctly.thejeopardyfan wrote:I hate to ask - What's IIRC?xxaaaxx wrote: It was a Shaft joke, IIRC.
Dave is our 2nd superchamp in less than a month, and consecutively. Is that a first?
The boards were definitely easier than yesterday, however Dave shot himself in the foot a little bit with that DD wager in Double Jeopardy. I personally don't mind runaways, but that a close call.
I also got final, strange I know history of a state I've never been to.

Nope. Kevin Marshall (6 wins) beat Tom Kavanaugh (8 wins) back in '06.Roadgeek Adam wrote:Dave is our 2nd superchamp in less than a month, and consecutively. Is that a first?

I'm still waiting on the contestant that will respond to the clue "Over under in and out, that's what this is all about" with "How do you tie your shoe?"
"No man is an island, so they say, although the small crustaceans and the bird which sat impassively on Dirk Manhope's chest as he floated lazily in the pool would probably disagree."

For some reason, I couldn't get out of my head as the right question for FJ! tonight. As soon as the correct answer was revealed though, I felt like a dope.
Am I the only person who's been annoyed with the themed wordplay categories lately? Maybe that's okay in J!, but in DJ! I feel like it's kinda lame to do what they did in "Four-Letter Words" today. I mean, I did run it though, so nice to get +6,000 for the Coryat.

ATBE, if Mark pulls out the last clue instead of Amy, Dave wins enough to get him over 100k for his 6 games!
I'm really liking the ebullience you bring to the game, Dave! You're fun to watch.

Anyone other than me have "Rock Band" instead of "Guitar Hero" in the J! round? I'm thinking it would be accepted, no?

I'd think not; Rock Band doesn't have "Star Power"--instead, it has "Overdrive".alamble wrote:Anyone other than me have "Rock Band" instead of "Guitar Hero" in the J! round? I'm thinking it would be accepted, no?

Re: Thursday, January 5, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)
13/30 times two.
I'll spare the obligatory rant on J!'s food categories and say 4 Letters was ultra easy, and only $2000 stopped me in Nickel and Dimed.
I hate the How Do You category because it's so awkward with the "what is how do you" phrasing, and sometimes, ridiculously precise. Such as the frostbite clue — I knew they were going for frostbite, but wouldn't have gotten "treat" in a million years. It reminds me of some of the Winner's Circle boxes on Donny Osmond's version of Pyramid — "Things on a Cave Wall", "What Regis' Coffee Cup Might Say", etc.
So which is weirder: precalling Man of La Mancha on Manly Movies without being sure that it was a movie, or guessing A Man for All Seasons instead when it actually came up?
FJ! was leading me absolutely nowhere. Sister said "Sutter's Mill" after time ran out and I said, "Oh yeah, duh." I am just completely unable to connect the dots, ever.

Re: Thursday, January 5, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)
We had the Monticello vs. Jefferson Memorial discussion in our living room as well. The wife was convinced it was the latter, but I fortunately stuck with Monticello.
All of that said, I was actually pulling for Dave. Congratulations on becoming a superchamp, Dave!
Agreed. It's too clumsy of a category.Tehshigelisok wrote:I hate the How Do You category because it's so awkward with the "what is how do you" phrasing, and sometimes, ridiculously precise.
Amy Ludwig was a great competitor, and for awhile I even thought she might defeat Dave. However, ringing in on that last clue was really not to her advantage since it sealed Dave's lock on the game. Strategically, I think she should have stayed silent and hoped that Mark Rupp would pick up that last $2000 and break the lock. That would have at least given her some chance at picking up a win on a sole get, although it admittedly still would have required irrational wagers on the part of both Dave and Mark.Paucle wrote:ATBE, if Mark pulls out the last clue instead of Amy, Dave wins enough to get him over 100k for his 6 games!

Yay for superchamp Dave! Nice win.
FJ! was California History 101. Also, both my parents are proud graduates of Sutter Junior High School. It would have been a shame to my heritage to miss it.
