Re: Wednesday, July 13, 2011 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILE
Am I the only one that noticed one of Paul's DJ responses was not in the form of question? (One of the movie ones - the 1963 one).
Damian again had another strong run, but it was not to be for a 3rd win. I however had a problem in FJ getting the name of the poet. I've heard this before and had a linking problem. Of course FJ made that obvious.

You mean "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?"?Roadgeek Adam wrote:Am I the only one that noticed one of Paul's DD responses was not in the form of question? (One of the movie ones - the 1963 one).
(And Paul didn't find any DD's. Damian got all 3.)
As to FJ ... nope, no chance.

I knew the poem, could not think of its author. Wrote down Longfellow just to have something.

Adam, I believe that since Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? is a question, it is not required that "What is" be placed before it in the response.
I thought I noticed that Damian failed to put his very first response of the game in the form of a question.

FJ was not for me. My WAG was Alfred, Lord Tennyson.

FJ was an instant get, but I though that it was a pretty lazy clue. With all the FJ clues that the writers have to come up with, I guess it's understandable.
Congrats on the run, Damian!

I think Damian often said "What's" instead of "What is", and in many cases the initial "W" sound was lost so that it sounded more like "uts", and in a few extreme cases, it was slurred together with the following word that it was difficult to even make it out. But I think it was there.Frank Hardy wrote:I thought I noticed that Damian failed to put his very first response of the game in the form of a question.
My FJ WAG was Robert Frost, even though I was pretty sure that was wrong.
I wish we could have finished the "Chance" category at the end of the DJ round as I was in the process of sweeping it.

Who is Coleridge? No problem: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=530
I can chalk up one clue correct to watching American Idol. Lieber & Stoller.
A DD in the category The Next Bible Book After? That's a scoreboard plus what's in the wallet wager.
I'm with you BigDaddyJ in wanting to finish the run in Chance.
Paul's path to victory was one that often won't work with a 2x champ finding all the DDs and getting the FJ clue correct. Damian would have needed to have both DJ DDs correct to win as getting Florence or getting Judges would not have been enough with his conservative wagers.

"Land of mist and snow" led me to Frank Zappa.
Great comeback by Paul at the end.

Longfellow wouldn't have been a bad guess, given he wrote a famous poem that started out with shooting an arrow. That was the poem my dad thought of, although he couldn't name the poet. Once I told him that the bird in the clue was an albatross, he immediately named Coleridge.
I agree with Mark re the Bible DD. Someone wrote two songs that listed the books of the Bible in order (one for each testament) that I learned around age 10, and I had 4/5 of the correct responses in mind before Alex had finished reading the clue. (The other one was a "ring in, then think" that I got.) Back to my dad: he instagot what came after Joshua because of a Lyle Lovett album title.

That was a pretty easy Bible category. They start with Genesis, then have one from the Gospels (Matthew?), and then go to Leviticus? Anyone whoever had to learn them would at least know the first few.
Then the book after Psalms. Joshua was a little tough but I've always known what was next, mainly because they both start with J.
I also wish they had finished Chance.

Did anybody else have a sound problem with today's show? It was very echoey and quite distracting to listen to ... sounded like the sound system was off in the studio and they had to use different mikes or something.

I thought of "I shot an arrow into the air/it fell to earth I know not where", which is by Longfellow - so that's what I would have said.Bamaman wrote:I knew the poem, could not think of its author. Wrote down Longfellow just to have something.
"Elen sila lumenn omentielvo...A star shines on the hour of our meeting."

Re: Wednesday, July 13, 2011 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILE
The part about the arrow made me think of Hiawatha, but the rest of the quote told me what the poem actually was. I was 99.9999% sure Longfellow didn't write the poem in the clue, but he was more likely to have done so than a blank screen, so I went with him. As soon as the first player's response was revealed, I knew they were correct.
