TD 3...2...1: Countdown (to MDMA?)
Welcome to TD 321! This one will play using the standard TD rules, with a major TWIST thrown in (more later). So, to the basics: you are to provide an answer to each of the questions that follow. The goal of the game is to choose answers that the fewest number of other players do. The score you will receive on each question is equal to the total number of people who gave the same answer. An incorrect answer will score a score equal to the SHEEP (most popular answer) score plus 5 points. You also have the option of answering DROP to one question, entitling you to a score of zero for that question. You also can answer SHEEP to one question to receive the score that the SHEEP answer gets.
And, now, for the TWIST. In true Reality TV fashion, this TD will be played as an elimination tournament. How are you eliminated? An incorrect answer will eliminate you immediately. Alternatively, you will be eliminated after your second SHEEP response. So, two SHEEPs or one incorrect and you're gone from the island. However, I will keep tallying your score even after elimination. I do this for two reasons. Firstly, I will also score this game the traditional way for a comparison. Moreover, should an eliminated player score TWO SINGLETONS after elimination, they're back from exile. The winners of the game will be those players who have staved off elimination with the lowest scores. ADDITION: The responses of eliminated players will be used in computing the scores of all players To make the gameplay enjoyable, most of the questions in this TD are of the accessible sort. One other twist: each successive question will have fewer correct answers than the previous one (barring one instance where they have the same), meaning that it will grow increasingly more difficult to avoid SHEEPing as the game progresses.
Your answers should be submitted to me by PM by no later than Sunday, Nov. 27 at MIDNIGHT EST (9:00 pm PST, etc.). And, of course, you are strictly enjoined to come up with your answers using only your own brain cells: no Google, no phone-a-friend, etc.

Re: TD 3...2...1: Countdown (to MDMA?)
The questions:
1. Name a Major League Baseball club that currently plays in the National League (15 correct answers)
2. Name a chemical element that is classified as an actinide. The actinides are those elements with atomic numbers 89-103. Of the 15 correct answers, 3 are primordial, meaning that they are found in nature, 2 are found as decay products of primordial elements and the other 10 are synthetic (i.e., not naturally occurring)
3. Name one of the last 13 US states to join the Union. (hint: this covers the years 1876-1959)
4. Name one of the 12 Zodiac symbols
5. Name one of the last 11 films to receive an Academy Award for Best Picture
6. Name one of the last 9 people to have been appointed to the Supreme Court of the United States.
7. Name someone who has been made an Honorary US Citizen (8 answers)
8. Name one of the "Seven Sisters" colleges (originally, these were all-female institutions that were considered the "female Ivy League")
9. Name one of the six categories in the original version of Trivial Pursuit
10. Name an (acknowledged) child of Donald Trump (5 answers)

How scoring will be performed in light of eliminated players has been clarified in the instructions.

Do the answers of people who have been eliminated contribute to the scoring of subsequent questions?
Teems with quiet fun.

Nitpicky clarifying question: if I elect to use my SHEEP, does this count as one of the two towards elimination?

Why, yes, yes it do. So it's best considered as a measure of last resort to avoid a neg (IMO)AleBelly wrote:Nitpicky clarifying question: if I elect to use my SHEEP, does this count as one of the two towards elimination?

Heh. I need to come up with some kind of mnemonic for "what's the actual name of the league that has/doesn't have a designated hitter", because I can never remember which is which.

Re: TD 3...2...1: Countdown (to MDMA?)
And this is why I love TD and why I need to enter more often. I love questions where most entrants know most/all answers, and then seeing how oddly the results skew. I never would have imagined the six teams that received no responses would have received no responses, and that's what makes it fun (and frustrating, must mostly fun).

Re: TD 3...2...1: Countdown (to MDMA?)
You and me both. If you look at the results, it was the so-called "small market" teams that were the most popular choices, but then you have the Mets, Cubs and Dodgers also in there. And the two teams that won the most NL pennants this decade (Cards, Giants) get no votes at allspell4yr wrote:And this is why I love TD and why I need to enter more often. Just out of curiosity, what will you do if everyone is eliminated? (I don't think I ever had fewer than two sheep in a TD.)
