I just barely avoided the boxes of shame by having stayed at Snowmass when I visited Aspen (a LOT cheaper to stay there instead of in Aspen).
They just aren't going to stump me on any questions related to skiing!

That said, I got that one and Lawrence Welk and that's it.

I thought with a name like "DNA Makes News," it was going to be a current events category, not about something from 1993.
My pre-call was CRISPR.

Re: Friday, January 17, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Well, I liked that FJ and it's probably because I got it right. :D I really think they were shooting for us to think of someone in the royal family who's not a Windsor by blood. I knew Philip was born in Greece, so figured that means he's got less British blood than the other royals who married in, ...

I have always thought they would end his career with some sort of “Alex Invitational” with him bringing back his favorites one last time.
I think we just saw it.

And at this point I'm going to be disappointed if Ken is not named Alex's successor.

Re: Thursday, January 16, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I had Panama City down for FJ right from the start, but did have some minor reservations. For some reason my mental image always has Central America oriented more north-south than it actually is. Often the case where macrogeography doesn't line up with microgeography. I know I was a little startled...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 4 (1/14/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Probably the single biggest factor in not doing it live is that would mean it wouldn't be in prime time for the entire country. Actually that factor probably makes it a non-starter. I think it's more likely that a hypothetical "J! Live" would be in prime-time everywhere, because it would air on a d...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 4 (1/14/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

A more valid point - just south of 14 million viewers watched the show(s). Possibly 14,000 of them noticed the listings and did the math. Possibly 1400 of them cared about being spoiled. OK, that's three points. Increase my guestimates by 10X, and it still isn't worth the hoop jumping for a 0.01% g...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 4 (1/14/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The other solution would have been to do it live. I’d love that, but I’ve heard that they spend 15-20 minutes sometimes with contestants’ backs to the board before finally adjudicating. Sports refereeing has a constant tension: Get it right or get it done. People complain about “lengthy” delays in ...

The Adam Schiff stumper was interesting. I wonder when this show was taped? Seems like FJ played more difficult than I would have expected based on the posts here so far. I would have pegged this one at close to 90% in the weekly poll. Kind of an ugly game overall tonight. Give credit to Veronica fo...

I just can’t get enough of these inductees.

Speaking of James, I'm not a James H. fanboy, but I cringe when Alex says "Jeopardy James". I can't imagine he wants to embrace that, it just seems icky to me  . And I'm sure there are sources out there who called James "Jeopardy James" during his run, but Alex acts like this was in widesprea...

Last night, Ken made a comment about being able to say "OK Boomer" to Alex. But Alex is not a member of the baby boomer generation. Although the exact years of birth for boomers can vary a little bit, I've never seen 1940, his year of birth, included in such a range. Yeah, but part of the joke in t...

Also, goalie -feels- more like a $200 clue response. Just sayin. True, but 20 goals in a season for goalies? In the history of the NHL, only 15 goals total have been scored by goalies. I actually called that someone would answer goalie on that clue. It seems like a knee-jerk a non-hockey fan ...
