Samantha Slama is a heck of a good name. Sam Slama Jama!
With Slama, Schiraldi, and Coffey in this game, it was a smorgasbord of 80s sports callbacks.

Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

I was not trying to be cagey, simply don’t feel it’s my place to reveal people who’ve gotten the call. Some people may post on their Facebook page for their friends or other social media or in private groups, and sometimes word-of-mouth spreads around, but giving their names on a public forum feels ...

I was shocked that James incorrectly responded and went all in.
Only one of those things should have been shocking. His wager was a no-brainer.

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 4 (1/14/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

When Shakespeare was revealed as the category for the second FJ I knew that it was over. I will never forget Ken's $75,000 game where he nailed the Shakespeare FJ and said later on that Shakespeare was a dream category for him. Your point would be stronger if Ken's Shakespeare knoweldge wasn't tota...

Re: Your prediction for GOAT tonight Jan. 14

It's kind of like the title of World's Fastest Human being given to the winner of the 100 meter dash at every Olympics. It doesn't mean forever, it just means "for now". Brad won the MDM to become Jeopardy "Master", the UTOC to become the Ultimate champion, Battle of the Decades confirmed his positi...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 2 (1/8/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

BTW, do we know for sure that the official rules treat the game 2 negatives the same way as game 1 negatives? I don't think it would have ever occurred to me to question this, but your answer is right in the very game this thread covers. Brad's -3600 was changed to 0 before FJ, and his 14,400 from ...

Re: Wednesday, January 8, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'd heard the phrase "Dreyfuss Affair", but thought it was a 70s political movie - probably embarrassingly conflating it with Jaws, too. But hey, I'm new to the J! cannon , so I'll learn from my blind spot in turn-of-the-century French history. I'm 99% sure it wasn't covered in my AP Euro class way...

Re: J! in the Media

Ratings for the first two GOAT episodes are strong. One might even say awesome. From Variety today: "The audience for Jeopardy: Greatest of All Time was even greater on Night 2 than on Night 1. On Wednesday, Part 2 of the dream match between Ken Jennings, James Holzhauer and Brad Rutter averaged 14...

Re: Tuesday, January 7, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I guess there is an argument to be made, based on a massive gulf in current prominence, but the thing is this isn't some obscure player from a century ago. The Brazilian Ronaldo is a whopping 9 years older than Cristiano and as it says right on his wiki, he is also widely considered to be among the ...

Re: Tuesday, January 7, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I feel like Ronaldo should not be correct. If there is ever going to be a case in FJ where you have to provide the first name to distinguish the person from another suitably famous person, then you should have to on this one, as Ronaldo alone specifically points to a different person.

Re: What Would You Ask Alex?

It had been a while since I'd seen the shot of Alex's lectern, I did not recall how tech-heavy it was. Given that look I'd say yeah you are most likely correct that he can see what they write.

I believe there have been various indications in the past that he is able to see what the contestants are writing during Final. Sometimes he doesn't watch or pretends not to have. I have no inside information on this, and it would be a lot of work to go back and find the episodes that I am basing t...

From Variety As most televised awards shows continue to suffer ratings declines, the Golden Globes has a secret weapon: For the second year in a row, it will air behind an NFL Wild Card game on NBC. The Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles will face off at 4:40 p.m. ET on Sunday for a chance to...

Rooting for overtime in this Seahawks/Packers game, just to see what happens as NBC has the Golden Globes scheduled for 8 PM eastern. Will they leave a roomful of Hollywood elite sitting in a ballrom waiting for the football game to end? Air the Globes on tape delay? Move either event to cable? Hopi...

Re: It's a Hand! It's Michigan! category poll (1/3/20 spoilers)

Didn't know Jackson for penitentiary city and the President clue had me thinking more along the lines of Monroe or Adams, and not recognizing either in Michigan. For some reason I've never noticed that Michigan gained statehood about 20 years after Indiana and Illinois, in January 1837, just 5 weeks...
