I have pre-tiebreaker stats saved down on my external HD. I'll pull them up over the weekend

Also I knew the guy was Solomon Northup, not Freeman.
Just like I knew the guy from that miniseries was Kunta Kinte, not Toby. Same deal, right? That was my justification for sticking with 12 Years a Slave — SLAVE being the title character. :?

Re: Monday, April 5, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'm hoarse today after yelling at the TV several times. Get those DDs!

I kicked this game off well:
No. 2 on GQ's "100 Most Powerful Bald Men in the World", he "imparted wisdom... to millions of faithful devotees & Richard Gere"
Me: Who is Bruce Willis?

Re: Wednesday, March 31, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The correct FJ response never crossed my mind — I don’t consider it a logo. Slogan, yes. I’m expecting ~25% in the poll. NHO the “primmer” pronunciation. I guess I’ve been mispronouncing the name of my Fact Primers series for several years now Poll request on Sununu. Bryce doesn't look old enough to...

Re: Learned League 88 - Feb/Mar '21

I knew precisely the region he was referring to, and confidently said Calabria (calor = heat). Oops. Technically correct, but not fitting the rest of the clue. Same answer and same post facto reasoning, did not know the region though I would have liked to have a crack at the Ben question without th...

Re: Friday, January 22, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I've always assumed the host knows the wagers after they're locked in (so actual possible winners/losers can be known for all 8 combos of responses), and that he knows who got it right (and hence who wins) after the bong-bong. It would be embarrassing to have a Moonlight Oscar moment. But seeing th...

Re: Friday, January 22, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

At a first glance it might look like there is a scenario where the 1201 wager wins the game where the 0 wager would lose, and there is no scenario where the 0 wager wins the game where the 1201 wager would lose. Therefore the 1201 wager should be better than 0. Except that is not true, there is a s...

Re: Friday, January 22, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

In Maggie’s spot I would have bet $9,998. I would assume the leaders would bet it all but one might hold back a dollar so that thwarts that strategy. If I hated the category I would probably bet nothing. In the lead I would absolutely bet it all. Even if I hated the category. From Maggie's spot the...

Re: Friday, January 22, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I gave myself credit for "desiccate" under 9-LETTER WORDS, $800 ("To take the water out of something"). Judges? Oh, absolutely! Good one. That spelling just looks wrong. I would've gone with dessicate. But the dictionary assures me that you're right and the squiggly red line under my spelling agree...

Re: Thursday, November 12, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The DD3 wager was unusual in that it would have resulted in a wager-to-tie situation no matter what (assuming the round ended when it did). As played, it’s first = second + third. Kate’s only good wagers were 3200 or 3201. (She apparently subscribes to the theories of that other wagering website.) I...

Re: Thursday, November 12, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I got annoyed by the Billy Ray Cyrus clue at first - I went with Old Town Road, as he's featured on it. (Yes, I know Achy Breaky.) Could it have hit #4 at some point on some chart in some country? Possibly. It might be worth knowing “Old Town Road” holds the record for longest stay atop the Billboa...

Random request, but could someone grab a video of the $400 clue in JOHN BROWN for me? Zainab is a dear friend of mine and she’d love to see it :)

Re: Monday, October 26, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

There was a lot of sloppy writing in today's show — so much so that I actually yelled at the TV at one point BONES, $200: This set of curved bones attaches to the sternum It was clear they were going for ribs, but as soon as Ariel said collarbones, I knew they'd have to accept it. It's a top-row clu...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

It's been a fun ML, and there is something at every level each day. I even like the way the audio clues sound like they are coming over a '48 Packard AM radio (If this isn't intentional, no malice intended :)). Thanks! The sound effect was intentional, but when it comes up again, it'll be toned dow...

There shouldn't be a College Championship of any sort in 2020-2021.

Re: Friday, October 2, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Had Moody's instead of S&P, not sure how I would have gotten it without flat remembering which one it was. Moody's doesn't use + and -, and doesn't capitalize beyond the first letter. Not sure why you'd be expected to know or remember that for $400, though — it was a bad clue (Fitch was my first in...
