Re: Friday, January 17, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I thought with a name like "DNA Makes News," it was going to be a current events category, not about something from 1993.

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 4 (1/14/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Probably the single biggest factor in not doing it live is that would mean it wouldn't be in prime time for the entire country. Actually that factor probably makes it a non-starter. I think it's more likely that a hypothetical "J! Live" would be in prime-time everywhere, because it would air on a d...

Need to figure out a way to work "security theater" and "sign stealing using electronic means" into the same op-ed piece about baseball.

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 4 (1/14/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

It was annoying that ABC spoiled how many matches this tournament would last before it had started airing. (Come on, whoever's responsible for TV listings -- you really didn't think about that?) It did not get spoiled by every TV listings provider -- in fact, this was the TV listings page in Wednes...

Fogey is spelled wrong by the writers.
Merriam-Webster approves of the "fogy" spelling. (In fact, they say "fogey" is a less common variant.)

Last night, Ken made a comment about being able to say "OK Boomer" to Alex. But Alex is not a member of the baby boomer generation. Although the exact years of birth for boomers can vary a little bit, I've never seen 1940, his year of birth, included in such a range. "ok boomer" doesn't literally i...

I had the correct answer, but also came up with a phone wiretap as a theoretical possibility. (I don't think 1892 technology would actually have allowed that.)

And by the way, it was Bleeding Fingers Music who scored the music package for GOAT. They're most famous for doing the music for "The Simpsons" for the past couple years, having replaced the show's longtime composer/music director Alf Clausen (who is currently suing Fox for age discrimination over ...

During this episode, Kasem read a listener question asking which song had the single biggest drop of all time on the Hot 100 chart from one week to the next. Kasem answered this question with "Crystal Blue Persuasion" by Tommy James and the Shondells, which Kasem said dropped straight from #1 to ou...

The change to 11:35 came in September 1991 (well after the Gulf War ended), and was done solely so that affiliates could sell more ad time in their 11:00 news. If I recall correctly, "The Tonight Show" did get pushed back 10-15 minutes during the Gulf War, but in that case, the NBC News report woul...

Lorne Michaels was FURIOUS, and I'm sure she now has a solid, protected 11:35 PM start for SNL.
It's 11:30 -- for whatever reason (probably Lorne Michaels-related), "SNL" didn't have its start time moved to 11:35 the way "The Tonight Show" did in 1991.

I'm trying to think of something not cliche like "what's your favorite Jeopardy moment" or "who do you want to replace you someday?" He does have pat answers for all the clichés -- during the special Thursday night, you saw his standard "Betty White" answer for "who do you want to replace you?" One...

Their AirTrain clue was technically incorrect, you can't take an AirTrain directly from Penn Station. You can take an AirTrain from the Newark Airport stop to get to the terminals. In my universe, a sport is something that is competed with rules for an objective winner.
E-sports? (Granted, I pay very little attention to e-sports, so I have no idea how many women actually compete.)

Matt Groening is a genius and you are monsters!
James L. Brooks and Sam Simon are probably more responsible for making "The Simpsons" into "The Simpsons" than Matt Groening was.
