Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread

Yeah I know. The only reason I follow J! on social media at all is they occasionally post pictures or video clips that I don't see elsewhere. The pitchforks are an amusing diversion, which is why I said it was completely anecdotal. I was just surprised at how quickly and how completely they about-f...

Re: Wednesday, January 13, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

My closed caption is still spoiling every clue before KJ has finished reading it in some cases, and always before it is spoken. Anyone else? Or do most boardies eschew the CC? This might be an interesting poll question when we have a slow poll week. Contact your local station -- on their website, t...

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread

I'd like to see Andy Richter get a guest-hosting spot, both as an excellent Celebrity J! player and someone who seems to really want to host a game show (he's done a good number of pilots). Obviously he's not quite an A-lister, but he has been on TV pretty consistently for almost 3 decades now.

Re: Reretaken Down

So weird... Bye Bye Birdie on IMDB? 7 514 ratings. The Accountant (generic Ben Affleck action flick that you probably didn't even know existed in 2016 when it came out), 259 139. The kind of people who give movie ratings on IMDB tend to be the kind of people who would have seen "The Accountant" but...

Re: Friday, January 8, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I don't remember the exact vocabulary, but I know there are generally two kinds of ads for syndicated shows - ads that are placed by your local station, and ads that are placed by the syndicator. For sitcoms, I think they add in the latter type of commercials, which causes some shows to eliminate a...

Re: Fun with ABC's "The Chase" [Spoilers]

I think they’re gonna rotate the chasers instead of all 3 in one episode. I can state this with absolute certainty. (Although two who don't play are going to be in that backstage area giving things the "MST3K" treatment.) Episode scheduled for January 14 (production number 105): the chaser is James...

Re: Thursday, January 7, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In is two songs but one recording track. So that means there were five songs from the musical that made the charts. Well, more like 4¼, based on how much of "Let the Sun Shine In (The Flesh Failures)" is actually included in that Fifth Dimension song. But, yes, the clue wo...

Re: Wednesday, January 6, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The recently released sequel, officially titled "Wonder Woman 1984," was being advertised as "WW84"... so I've recently seen some people on social media referring to the first film as "WW17."

ABC has posted publicity photos for the first three scheduled episodes of "The Chase": link here.

You'll see a number of J! alumni -- the photos will also spoil for you who the chaser is in each episode.

Re: 2020 in review and what's in store for 2021

Just look at the stats when WWTBAM with Regis chose their contestants via solely the phone game. Jeopardy doesn't want 75-80% male contestants so they adjust accordingly. When I tried out for "The Chase," at the end of my one-on-one tryout, the contestant coordinator said, "We're still looking for ...

Here is NBC's original 2-page press release announcing a certain forthcoming daytime game show, and a follow-up release listing the show's credits. (Not a full credit roll, because they don't list the full roster of technical crew members.) It moved to its more familiar noon time slot 18 months afte...

Re: Fun with GSN's "Master Minds"

What's up with the episode numbering? My best guess would be that the contestant in the pilot DID win, and they just brought him back literally the next day, if they only taped the one pilot episode as a test run. And maybe he wasn't available the next taping day, so they had him come back later in...

I was more distracted that Tie was onside when he accepted Alex's pass. Am I missing something? The clue was "If Tie Domi crosses the blue line before I get the puck to him, we'll be guilty of this infraction." They weren't supposed to be demonstrating offside, they were just supposed to be demonst...

Lassen Peak, a.k.a. Mount Lassen -- which is in California -- is one of only two volcanoes to erupt in the "lower 48" United States during the 20th century. If they really wanted to get a stand-and-stare from their Southern California contestants, they could have used a list like Glenn, Amador, Teha...

Re: Friday, December 18, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Kern County is the county directly north of Los Angeles County. If the writers are assuming that the contestants are all local to LA, it's perfectly cromulent. And, really, all the counties in California have made the news in L.A. during the pandemic, as case counts have risen and fallen, and busin...

I was kicking myself over that one. 99s felt like something I knew, but it just wouldn't click. Turned out last issue of Air & Space had an article on female pilots and 99s came up often in it...guess I'll get it right next time now. As someone pointed out on the LL message board, the 99s come up i...

Re: 2020 Jeopardy North American Audition Tour

Now I don't know exactly about the Zoom version, but in the in-person version, three people at a time would play on a regular Jeopardy board, calling out categories and values, clues would be revealed, people would buzz in and answer when called on. At the in-person, there was a full 30 question bo...
