Re: Friday, March 27, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I unfortunately reasoned the reverse way, thinking that Truman was probably the negbait since TV was pretty well established in households by the late forties. I knew the first broadcast station had been in operation since even before FDR's first election, and that sporting events and news programs...

Re: J! to Tape Without Live Audience

Looking over a summary of the state order, the nearest exemption I see is for "news outlets", which I can't see covering J! operations. Governor Newsom's order refers to "workers who support radio, television, and media service, including, but not limited to front line news reporters, studio, and t...

Re: Friday, March 20, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Did Alex call Tina Fey “the original SNL cast”? No. He said "The early--the early days" and she said "Very early." That was odd. Saturday Night Live had already been on the air for more than 20 years when Tina Fey joined the cast. I took it to mean "the early stages of the careers of Tina Fey et al...

Re: Our Current Situation

I was reeeeeeeeal lucky to, after about eight months of unemployment, be hired as a contractor at a company at the beginning of the year... and then be hired full-time at the beginning of March, for a job that I can do from home for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, those eight months of unempl...

The "Mandela Effect" is dumb pseudoscience and should not have been dignified with a category on America's Favorite Quiz Show.
They've been doing astrology-related clues for a long time.

Anyway, I see the Mandela Effect as pop culture, not science.

Re: 2020 Current Events Discussion Thread

According to multiple sources, Tom Brady is expected to be the new quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2020 NFL season. If the 2020 NFL season actually happens. It would be extremely Buccaneer-like for them to sign Tom Brady and then have him never actually play for the team due to outs...

Re: Tuesday, March 17, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I said Hong Kong and should have paid more attention to the category. I missed "ABC" with "American Broadcasting Corporation" instead of company. I watched the show on ABC... Up until ABC was taken over by Disney, the network's parent company was called "American Broadcasting Companies , Inc." (and...

Re: J! to Tape Without Live Audience

And I know LA now has similar restrictions, including closing "entertainment venues" (goodbye, SONY Studios)... The studios are considered workplaces, not "entertainment venues," which is more along the lines of theaters and nightclubs. (But many productions have shut down anyway, and, of course, m...

That was supposed to be the same character? That makes so little sense.

Why did Michael age 30 years and Dawes age 50 years?
Either banking ages you more quickly, or having a magical nanny ages you more slowly.

MLB games in Phoenix that I have tickets for. I was contemplating going to see my beloved Rays at Wrigley Field over Fourth of July weekend, but at this point, I'm waiting to see how MLB alters the schedule to account for the missing two weeks. I suspect they'll at least make sure teams play the fu...

July movie with Dwayne Johnson & Emily Blunt based on Disneyland attraction: Jungle Cruise At this point, I wouldn't assume that any movie is going to open on its scheduled date, especially not four months out. "No Time to Die" got all the attention, but at least two other movies that were being wi...

Re: The Jeopardy! Anytime Test

I'm thinking someone just made a mistake about needing to pass the written test to stay for the other stuff. I suspect they're merely giving themselves some leeway, just in case of something happening at the in-person audition. (Someone blatantly copying answers from another person's test, perhaps.)

I did put it. You may note that I'm in A Lyceum.

(And the Academy, asked about in the question, was Plato's school -- it was Aristotle's school that was the Lyceum.)

Re: 2020 Current Events Discussion Thread

With the mayor of Los Angeles declaring a state of emergency over the coronavirus, I was wondering if that means that this season of J! will either be cut short or if the remaining tapings will be delayed a while. The "Jeopardy!" studio is not in the city of Los Angeles -- Culver City is a separate...

I had the same dilemma. I knew the name from recent movies, but I was puzzled by the "industry", because my first inclination was "cinematography ". That felt like a misfit, so I ended up answering "film photography", and that was accepted. It helps being in Los Angeles, where "The Industry" is bas...
