Re: Reretaken Down

I did not dare bump any of the Trebek threads to avoid scaring anyone, but Bergeron seemed to have as many dislikes as likes as a potential J! host. He'd be a good host of J! (or pretty much anything), but he's 65, and I have a feeling they'll be looking for someone younger as an Alex replacement.

The Stop & Shop chain has announced plans to merge with the A & P stores. New outlets to be known as "Stop & P."
This is even more out of date than Linear Gnome's joke (because A&P has been out of business since 2015).

Re: Poll on Boardies Covid-19 Impact

I got really lucky and, after about eight months of unemployment, started a new job on the first Monday in January (as an editor of online/email marketing content). The company went to work-from-home mode as of Friday, March 13. Someone I know from another message board was in the hospital with Covi...

For the third time in five seasons, I finished at the very bottom of the non-relegation zone in A Alpine (LL81, LL82, and now LL85).

Instead of speculating, one could actually look it up on Audible to find out that it's more about his experience preparing for the show, and how those lessons can be applied to preparing for other things.

That was my first thought, but calling it a "series" made me second guess.
I was surprised by the number of people on the message board who said this as well. It's a regularly-scheduled television program with a consistent title and format -- it's as much a series as "Jeopardy!" is.

And I also knew Kimmel is LA, not NYC, even if he's from New York.
I don't think of him as a "New York" guy at all -- he was born there, but he considers himself to be "from" Las Vegas (where his family moved when he was 9), and he gained his first real fame in radio at KROQ in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles, actually. (I had applied for tickets to one of the taping sessions, but had decided not to go for social-distancing reasons even before they canceled the audiences.)

It looks like all filming in Los Angeles was cleared to restart today so hopefully it won't be too long before we get new episodes of Jeopardy! Well... it's not that simple . (Link is to the unions' proposed safety guidelines, which will be a challenge for the J! production staff -- or any producti...

Re: Master Minds air time in CA

that 4pm time is not right if you have DirecTV, like my brother... He gets the show at 1 and 5:30. He lives six blocks from me in NorCal. This is true for Dish Network as well. Cable systems in California pick up Game Show Network's Pacific feed, but the two satellite services only have the Eastern...

I wondered how Meggie got this and how it was in a middle row clue. It doesn't seem that famous unless you are an art enthusiast.
Or a train enthusiast!

(A fact which may have also helped bring TNT immediately to mind for me, since they're currently running the train-related show "Snowpiercer.")

Can you elaborate on the significance of this a little? Was there a problem of a domineering sponsor dictating what should happen on the show?
Yes, that was a big part of what led to the scandals -- the sponsor putting direct pressure on the producers.

Re: RIP Herb Stempel

If the scandals had never happened, or never been exposed, I wonder how differently things would be handled today. Two things in television that we now take for granted that are effectively the result of the quiz show scandals: 1. The networks sell advertising within programs to multiple sponsors, ...

When I was growing up, one set of my grandparents lived near Iowa City, and when we would visit them, there were sometimes "threats" that we would take a day trip to the Amana colonies. Or the Herbert Hoover presidential library. I don't remember actually going to either one.

Have your PVR record every weekday at the time Jeopardy is on. On the West Coast, where the show is not always on at the same time, this would require a lot more "babysitting" than the unusual situation that caused today's episode to not automatically record. That situation is that many DVRs though...
