Re: Wednesday, September 16, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

While I don’t want a Kelley on every episode, I didn’t find her to be bad at all. And if he would have gone “all in” based on her quip alone, that speaks more about him than it does her. Oh, and Brad (and maybe Ken) both encouraged Roger to go all in during the BoTD. He obliged but that was probably...

Re: Season 37 changes and predictions

Ken is 46. Alex was 44 when he hosted his first episode. I agree about having someone commit long term. I thought TPIR bringing Drew Carey on was an odd choice, but he has been there 13 years now. The role of a game show host is a pretty darn good gig. You are paid well, you can tape a bunch of sho...

Re: Tuesday, May 14, 2002 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

1. Great job by Eric rallying to at least force Brad to get FJ right; 2. Those missed DDs by Bob were just as heartbreaking to watch now as they were back then; 3. The people who didn’t watch this tournament back in the day were probably surprised to see that Brad did not dominate this tournament at...

Re: Friday, May 10, 2002 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The things that always made this game fun were Bob’s comeback after being in the hole for a while and his fake out in FJ. After his initial huge run and TOC win, Chuck couldn’t get over the semi-finals hump, reaching the semis in both this tournament and the BoTD. I still think his BoTD comeback aga...

Re: Thursday, May 9, 2002 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Maybe Leslie saw how Rachael Schwartz won her TOC semi-final game and thought she would apply the same strategy (though Rachael’s wager was much more crafty given the scores of second and third place). Yes, I am trying my best to find any reason she did what she did in a million dollar tournament wh...

Re: Wednesday, May 8, 2002 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

We will never know but I always wondered how Eric would have fared as a regular player instead of a tournament only player. Obviously, he was introduced to us as a teen so he would have needed to wait a few years to get into the regular contestant pool. His buzzer skills in this game were elite. Goo...

Re: Tuesday, May 7, 2002 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

This was a pretty tough matchup overall. Babu won $75,000 in his five shows. Robin was a five-time winner and a multi tournament winner while India Cooper won $68,000+ in her five shows. India’s huge risk on that final DD turned out to be quite the clutch get. If she misses that, Babu sneaks in thro...

Re: Friday, May 3, 2002 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

This game demonstrated the Forrest Bounce much better than the game they showed a few weeks ago. I am glad that my recollection of what he would do wasn’t too far off. He wasn’t an Arthur Chu style bouncer. He instead would go up and down a few categories at a time. Chuck played this one right IMHO....

Since zinc has been in the news this year as a part of treatment for COVID-19, my mind immediately went in the direction of medicine and vitamins. Goes to show you how some FJ are ageless while others are more time dependent.

Re: Wednesday, May 1, 2002 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

This game brought back some bad memories. Frank was one of my all-time favorites and once he got on a roll in this game, he was tough to stop. That darn FJ, though. He could have and should have played it safe in FJ but I assume his thought process was that these are 15 of the best players so maybe ...

One ToC semifinalist was randomly (by regular play champion during picking week) drawn from each of the first nine seasons. Luck was with Frank to get selected as well as most recent ToC winner, Tom. If you have never seen what the draw looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1AlA7TMUIY Tom ha...

Re: Monday, January 15, 1990 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I remember the daytime network game shows had a soft cap of $25,000. If you won a game and went over, they let you keep it but kicked you off. I guess they didn’t think anyone would come close to $75,000 in a five day limit. That is $40,000 a day under current rules and only James has done that. Ye...

Re: Friday, October 4, 1985 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I just watched the episode, and Chuck Forrest was indeed a phenomenal player. I would’ve considered him a possible candidate for Greatest of All Time from when the 5-day limit was in effect...well, before Brad Rutter won the Million Dollar Masters Tournament in Season 18. Other candidates from that...

Re: Tuesday, September 11, 1984 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I wonder if Greg ever thinks about what might have been. The wager was obviously crazy but if he gets it right, he has himself quite an impressive 2-day total. Maybe he wins three more games, gets to the TOC, wins enough to qualify for the UTOC..... alternate universe stuff.

Re: J! to Tape Without Live Audience

This was definitely the right thing to do. I wonder if they are going to do any kind of screening of players in queue? Speaking of which, how many players do they have in queue? I assume the season isn’t too far from the point where they wrap up production for the season, which would be a good thing...

Re: Monday, March 2, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Bruce played a strong overall game. He likely misunderstood the first DD clue, which is unfortunate but didn’t cost him a runaway. I don’t care what players wager in runaway games. MacKenzie just took her money and ran to the next game. Bruce tried to add to his total. I would probably be more like ...

Re: Thursday, February 27, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

All good things must come to an end. MacKenzie was a fun player to watch and I look forward to her in the TOC. I find it a bit funny that she loses the day she actually spells FJ correctly.

Allison was the biggest star of the game but the final got her, unfortunately,

Re: Wednesday, February 26, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

When someone has a runaway, it doesn’t really matter me what they wager. MacKenzie earned the right to bet whatever she wishes by destroying the competition during the J and DJ rounds. She is obviously not adverse to risk given that she goes big on DD. She does have some Buzzy in her in that way. He...

Re: Monday, February 24, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I knew coming here that people were going to hate MacKenzie’s wager and there is no doubt that it was far from optimal. That said, if it is a category she loves and she wants to see if she can secure a huge win, she has every right to throw away the calculator and go for broke. She has shown to be s...

Re: Friday, February 21, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Always nice when the games are close and you know the FJ. It has helped MacKenzie build up a huge total because she is being forced to bet big to secure the wins. Missing a clue to fall into second only to jump right back in to take the lead. Not that it mattered in the end. Part of me felt bad for ...
