Relieved to see that not many people came up with "The Nightingale." Not sure I've even heard of it.

Re: Learned League 84

Seeing Ike Barinholtz and Dave Weigel on Millionaire and thinly hiding their LL association, I was wondering (besides Mick Mulvaney) who the other "famous" (not Jeopardy types) people in LL. I think a few others have been mentioned in the past, but I can't remember who they are. MazinC appears to b...

Re: Learned League 84

Cootie does not sound/look familiar to me at all!

For the Haydn question I considered Hoboken, but that seemed likely to be a Native American name, and I was looking for something that sounded German. I ended up going with New Brunswick, although I didn't know whether that was in northern NJ or not.

Instantly went with New Orleans on Thursday without giving it a second thought, based on an LL question from not that long ago.

I've heard of Waitress but know nothing about it. Instead all that came to mind was Mean Girls, though the year seemed off.

Bummed that we didn't get to see many Hawaiian crossword clues.

This was a hell of a game! Was sure Terry was a goner. I struggled more than usual with the first round in particular (those animal verbs just weren't coming to me), so it was reassuring to see that the three players seemed to have a hard time with it too.

Totally surprised by the reversal on Lech Walesa -- it's a tough name and her pronunciation seems more than close enough to me. Kristyna was robbed!

Same. I found the first name category tough too -- Jane Smiley doesn't ring a bell for me, and Cosimo isn't something I'd be able to produce in the moment.

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Pacific), January 30, 2020

I'd never seen this before, so I thought I'd put this out there: the source of the old "35 is the cutoff" rumor is apparently a press kit put out by Jeopardy in the 80s.

Claire McNear is working on a Jeopardy book and is absolutely worth a follow if you're a Twitter person, by the way!

Playing along on Youtube with this I got 48/50. When I took the test for real on Tuesday I got 47, and then 44 on Wednesday.

Missed Frida Kahlo (misread that she was at a school in New Mexico, so I had Georgia O'Keefe) and Arby's (the slogan didn't ring a bell at all, so I guessed Carl's Jr).

47/50 here, I think.

Wrote "centennary," counted that it had ten letters but felt it looked wrong. Realized it was centennial but didn't have time to fix it.

Had no clue on the Texas animal.

Blanked on the Shades of Gray author. It's one I know, but would need a little more time to come up with.
