Re: Thursday, June 10, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Stevens/Sotomayor here.

I didn’t think his bet was that bad. It got him above the leader’s MSBIW on a get and stays above third place on a miss. Granted, it doesn’t work if the leader bets zero, but that doesn’t happen often.

Another for lunch hour. Thought “hour” was the key to unlocking it. Not sure how you would favor coffee break (which I didn’t consider). Alas.
I guess getting a lunch break was already on the books prior to WWII.

He also has a statue in his hometown.

Didn’t know Redding was from Macon.

I just looked it up and Little Richard was also from Macon. Redding once played in his band.

Re: Learned League 89 - May/Jun '21

I think you're quite exaggerating how hard/obscure this was. This has mostly been said but, "Made in America" is the final episode and has one of the most famous/talked about ending scenes in 21st century television. The Pine Barrens points to New Jersey and the Italian name certainly fits with a m...

Do they ever have intelligent people on that show? Or is that a disqualifier?
I think they get them from people who weren’t smart enough to get on Divided.

Re: Wednesday, June 9, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I had Arkansas and Kansas. Not sure which was first, but they came in quick succession. I guess if Texas came first it is harder to get the other. Agree it was a bad DD bet. Either bet little to keep the lead on a miss or big enough to guarantee a lead going into FJ. Instaget FJ. I assume Hendrix wa...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

That fourth game was definitely one of those S1 classics. Wild guesses, random applause, and sidebar comments from Alex. At 1:16:24 of the video, Alex reads a clue containing a slur that nowadays is typically bleeped on network TV. The contestant begins his answer with "How 'bout" (rather than "Who...

Re: Tuesday, June 8, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I had lunch hour due to the “period of time” bit. I have heard of coffee break but it has always just been called a “15 minute break” at my jobs. Never been a member of a union.

Bad wagering today. Verlinda bets small on DDs but big on FJ, when she really had no chance of winning.

Re: Friday, June 4, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Funny how different people have different sets of facts in their brains. To me, I would have thought this was a kids-week-level FJ clue, and my draw literally hit the floor when it went 0/3. Apparently, I was WILDLY AND COMPLETELY off-base with my thoughts. I think you're overestimating kids' famil...

Re: Rest of Season 37, Changes & Predictions for Season 38

I don’t mind the interviews. Most are rather dull but I watch them anyway. If we never have another Power Player or any celebrity week, that would be fine with me. Although a week of actual politicians would be fun. You’d have to use ones who aren’t on the ballot in 2022, but you’d still have plenty...

Re: Friday, June 4, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was definitely rooting for the woman who is from Alabama and seemed to be in my age range but unfortunately she fell short. I did match her FJ response.

Glad I wasn’t the only one amused by the study of xylophones. I was also charmed by Susie trying to politely give the meaning of gerontology.

Re: Learned League 89 - May/Jun '21

Gotta say, I'm baffled that over half the league doesn't know what a first down signal looks like. Sadly, combined with my horrendous defense this season, that turned my six-pack into a 9(6)-9(5) tie. In my case, it was an RTFQ: I thought it said that the ref’s arm was perpendicular to the ground, ...

Re: Learned League 89 - May/Jun '21

I know full well what a first down signal looks like but I couldn't parse the description. I ended up putting "touchback". I was glad that my answer of "Hallelujah Chorus" was accepted. I thought the description was a jumbled mess and put defensive penalty, which was accepted. My opponent lives in ...

Re: Learned League 89 - May/Jun '21

I thought it was some sort of current events question since it said they lived in that town until recently. Wondered if there was some big story about them being forced to move that I missed. Looked them up afterwards and quit caring after seeing they are Tic Toc stars.

Re: Reretaken Down

This thread quickly veered into being my favorite on JBoard. Accepting whatever the source of "Princess of Theed" is as canon, if she only took the regnal name "Amidala" upon being elected Queen of Naboo, she was never "Princess Amidala". (She was born Padmé Naberrie.) If she's elected, is it even ...
