There was a clue in the May 1, 2019 game that triggered a good bit of discussion re: Icelandic surnames. That is where I first learned of it.

Re: Thursday, February 18, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I find myself thinking this periodically but it is a terrible idea. Whether a response is correct or not is usually pretty cut and dried; whether a response is "close enough" is open to interpretation and opens a huge can of worms.

Anyone else think that for "In Genesis 4 this murder takes place", Cain and Abel should have gotten a BMS?

Am I the only one who was floored at how quickly the contestants got the "Countries' Translated Names" clues? I had barely finished reading, let alone attempt a translation, and they had already rung in and moved on.

Huh, Sun King never occurred to me. Same here. Saw the title "Of the Night" and ignored the garish sun. Went instead to the dark side with Pluto/Hades. Ditto on Hades. Also, I can name a zillion gods but if I had to guess if they were Greek or Roman I would score barely above 50% so that particular...

I'm counting turtle for tortoise. Probably safe; I can't find any instances in the Archive of someone being negged on "turtle" when "tortoise" was expected. At most you'd get a BMS, I think. And here I was wondering if my "tortoise" would have gotten a BMS to "giant tortoise". FWIW, all tortoises a...

I'm bucking the trend with my FJ response of Donegal. Alas, Donegal is in northern Ireland, but unfortunately not in Northern Ireland

Like Bamaman, for FJ, had to guess between Motel 6 and Super 8. Guessed correctly, but my logic was merely "which one have I heard mentioned on Jeopardy! more often?" Turns out the 8 was from $8.88, so the rate wasn't actually in the name. Good to know. I combined the names from both companies and ...

Sure, Ken was reading faster but the recent reruns reminded me that Alex also used to read a lot faster. More jarring to me was Ken's pitch - his voice is considerably higher than Alex's.
Solid first effort, but I'll need to hear him say "genre" before a final judgement.

Another precall for Don Quixote. Quickly read the clue, saw no reason to change, sat smugly for the next 29 seconds. Had I parsed it a little closer I would have realized they were not asking for the title character. Lesson learned.

It's been a tough FJ! week for me, picking responses that are plausible but incorrect. Today was Mel Brooks.

NHO Marjorie Karmel so that was no help. Went with Albert Schweitzer on the vaguely french connection and a dim recollection that there is a foundation related to him.

I thought manticore and gorgon were pretty bad guesses, but if someone had written unicorn I would have laughed out loud. I was pretty confident my response of auroch was correct. I'm curious if any boardies got this solely from clue context, without any prior knowledge of the animal being mentioned...

For some reason AT&T TV showed a rerun of Mackenzie Jones (her seventh game I think). This is confusing to me. Is there some way to watch J! on AT&T TV other than watching it on your local affiliate's channel? I have AT&T TV but I always watch it on KOMO and they showed the correct show last night....

FWIW and I don't know if this is related, but last night watching WDIV (Detroit) via AT&T TV was a rerun of Mackenzie Jones' seventh(?) game.

Played off the archive. Knee-jerked English Channel for FJ! but remembered that swimming it is a "thing". Knew the Strait of Gibraltar was too narrow so that left the Mediterranean by default.
