I had a feeling someone might try to make the poem's name into 10 letters.
<raises hand> Dammit, it doesn't fit! Knew it had two "b"s so I looked elsewhere. "Borogoves" is too short, as is "albatross". This is the first time I left a response blank in ages.

Rejected Webster because I did not think he was contemporaneous with Dickinson, but that was just sloppy clue parsing on my part. Another tally for Roget here.

I don't care either way about the bet reminder, but for the sake of fairness it should be handled consistently.

Re: Friday, June 18, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Played off the archive. For FJ I picked up on the pronoun oddity but didn't know what to do with it. Use of the word "story" instead of "novel" led me away from authors better known for lengthier works. Best I could come up with was Chekov (who died in 1904). I don't think it was a bad clue and give...

Re: Tuesday, June 8, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The correction of "metal" to "heavy metal" was bizarre. The latter term is rarely used anymore. How to start a fight in a room full of music nerds: 'Metal and Heavy Metal [or Rock/Rock and Roll; Country/Country & Western; Punk/Punk Rock; Alternative/Alternative Rock/Alt Rock...] are different names...

...For the last DJ clue, I said viticulture rather than wine since they are growing grapes in the photo. Judges?... I'd allow it. I forgot the exact wording and just started spouting related words. "Grapes! Vineyards! Oenology!" I had viticulture as well and have a beef with the response of "wine"....

Did Mayim have some happy juice before the game? She seemed a little too giddy and amused by too many of the clues today. I noticed this too and must admit I found it a bit annoying. I found it extremely annoying. So much so that for me it DQs her from a permanent gig. I gave her a pass during the ...

Switched from Saudi Arabia to Yemen about halfway through the think music.

Judges: Between Hell and High... for $600: "Like pell-mell, it's a hyphenated rhyming term for confusion." I responded with higgly-piggly. Any good reason why I shouldn't credit myself?

Never occurred to me that cabin would be anything other than four-walls-and-a-roof in this context.

Best I could come up with was Eisenhower, via a rather tortuous route through Camp David.

Waffled between Phil Donahue and Regis Philbin, settled on the latter as I decided Donahue was going a little too far back. As noted upthread, Rodgers was rather low-key. But each previous host had their own little quirks in the first episode or two before they settled in. I'll withhold judgement un...

Didn't care for the FJ clue. Took me a few seconds to realize bruise implied a body or body part, discarded Uncle Sam and Rosie the Riveter as not being logos and settled on the American Heart Association. I wouldn't consider the given response to be either iconic or a logo and even if it came to mi...

FJ was another example of a one-way clue for me. "Carrara is known for this" and marble is an instaget, but "Marble is quarried in this Italian city with three As" is a stand and stare.

I think a response without "Le" should be accepted because the clue is flawed. "Representing its outspoken tone, this newspaper founded in the 19th century has the name of a free-spirited opera character" The name of the character is Figaro. "...has the name..." implies the newspaper name and charac...

No, of course it was Journey...or as the kids today call it, "That song from 'Glee'". And this definitely-not-a-kid calls it "that song from the last episode of The Sopranos". I was all over the map on this one. Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac. The problem I was bumping up a...

There was a clue in the May 1, 2019 game that triggered a good bit of discussion re: Icelandic surnames. That is where I first learned of it.

I find myself thinking this periodically but it is a terrible idea. Whether a response is correct or not is usually pretty cut and dried; whether a response is "close enough" is open to interpretation and opens a huge can of worms.
