Re: Friday, February 14, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

On the first line thing, you could make more than one entire category using the Parker books from Richard Stark (aka Donald Westlake). Some samples: “When a fresh-faced guy in a Chevy offered him a lift, Parker told him to go to hell.” “When the woman screamed, Parker awoke and rolled off the bed.” ...

(No, I haven't seen Fanny and Alexander . I doubt it would make me change my mind. In any event, Martin Guerre should at least have been nominated .) You should see Fanny and Alexander ; it is extraordinarily good, and should have been nominated and victorious in the Best Picture category. One of m...

Re: TD 439 - Buffalo (Questions 1-8 revealed)

I should get some kind of award for basically picking every sheep. Me first!!! Next TD, I’m doing reverse-reverse-reverse-psychology, instead of the reverse-reverse-psychology I used on this one. You guys are amateurs; I sheeped five in a row. Shamefully enough, I managed to have three singletons o...

Re: TD 439 - Buffalo (Questions 1-8 revealed)

Dare I ask how many joined me for RBIs? Just one. I was kind of surprised by how the whole question played. On this topic, I really had no idea how the board's knowledge would play. I should get some kind of award for basically picking every sheep. Me first!!! Next TD, I’m doing reverse-reverse-rev...

  :| :| :( :| :| :| :| Guessed Dalton for the scientist. I had three probables for the scientist - Faraday, Clerk Maxwell, Heaviside. Rejected Heaviside as too obscure even for this Jeopardy. Picked Maxwell because it sounded more like his speed than the relati...

Re: J! in the Media

More from The Washington Post: We talked to Brad Rutter about that ‘Jeopardy!’ tournament to ask: What happened, Brad? Could you spoiler this please? Not everyone has seen the whole tournament. Especially those of us who are asking someone, anyone for a link to where we can watch it but so far, cri...

Re: Wednesday, January 15, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I NHO "A Wrinkle in Time" until lately, I guess it's a movie or something. I will give myself an "OK Boomer". Wrinkle in Time is a total Boomer book. It was published right at the end of the Boom just as tens of millions of Boomers were turning the right age to read it. They then grew up and became...

Re: FJs for the 1/6/20 week

Have read Catch-22 multiple times; it and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and The Crying of Lot 49 define ‘60s literature for me. I find the original movie adaptation of Catch-22 quite good overall and much better than I expected it to be, but the book is just brilliant; I am a big fan. (I seriousl...

Re: Wednesday, January 1, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Continue to be impressed with Karen. I’ll be surprised if this FJ polls over 50%. I kept thinking “a gemstone...a gemstone...Emerald?”; on the right track but the gemstone connection turned out to be the writer, not the supporting actress, and I had the wrong gemstone. Sigh. A good sole get by Karen.
