Re: Tuesday, June 22, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Ok definitely looks like it’s more common and gettable than I thought. I don’t think it’s because of me having a bad memory, I can name every Oscar winning actress in order in a few minutes for example. The information getting flagged as “critical” seems to be working differently.

Re: Tuesday, June 22, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Also the player that got Mia Sara in this game has been haunting me for years: https://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=5517 I'm just genuinely baffled how people get these and would love to figure it out. If you’ve seen the movie, it should be easy as she is one of the main three characters....

Re: Tuesday, June 22, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Poll request on Christopher Guest. It's been haunting me all day that Sandy got that. Also commentary request on how people get the clues about non-superstar supporting actors. He is noteworthy but from the clue it really looks like you needed to know who played Count Rugen in The Princess Bride . A...

Re: Wednesday, June 23, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

42R. 4/4 on big clues. Did the math to figure out it was something to do with space, noted ruble to eliminate Sally Ride. Did not know Whistler's name had that many names in it. Kicking myself for missing Christopher Meloni and Christo. I recently played through an archive game with Christopher Melo...

Re: Tuesday, June 22, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

44R. 4/4 on big clues. I've read Prisoner of Trebekistan which talks about the poem and I've also seen a contestant get negged for mixing up Jabberwocky and Jabberwock in the past. I watched the 2010 Disney film Alice in Wonderland recently and they refer to the creature as a Jabberwocky which was i...

They should just do the simple thing and pick a host that will make everybody happy.

Re: Monday, June 21, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

What do people here think about "A Brief History" for $800? They accepted "the War of the Roses". Should that have been negged in favor of the more usual "WarS of the Roses"? Googling the plural returns mostly results about the conflict. Googling the singular returns almost entirely results about t...

The national institute of health Journal of the American College of Cardiology has used that term, along with many other sources. Maybe it could be noted to avoid the term in the future but “outrage” seems excessive.

Re: Monday, June 21, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

42R. 1/4 on big clues. Got Kennedy but missed the others. Said Roget. I added Peter Mark Roget and Noah Webster to my list of things I get confused. D'oh! Tough game for me today. Said Robin Hood instead of The Lion King . I went 1 out of 2 for clues that I responded to with Robinhood. Some clues th...

Re: Friday, June 18, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

As mentioned above, Alex seemed to state it most every time it was possible to and I don't recall anyone complaining about it then. What's so different now? Alex also frequently pointed out things like "not a runaway game" or "you have exactly half the leader's score", and was criticized plenty of ...

43R. 2/4 on big clues. Blanked on Tbilisi for no good reason, usually don't miss capitals. Missed FJ. I could not think of anything in time and wrote down Shaw just to have something. I wrote down Kafka before the answer was revealed, completely by lucky mistake, but it was after time was up so it w...

43R. 3/4 on big clues. Missed Angina. I've heard that before so maybe it will stick now. Emily seemed like a strong contestant and certainly stood out in this game. I'm rooting for anybody who can break the curse. Whatever the curse is now. Joined Sarah in ringing in and then not knowing Pat's first...

Re: Tuesday, June 15, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

So I'm wondering where the writers got "overstory" from... ... ... I imagine use of the word has increased since Richard Powers named his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about trees. Baader-Meinhof in action. Saw this on a recommended reading list yesterday and here it is again. I want to learn more a...

41R. 4/4 on big clues. I knew Buzz Lightyear's name was based on Buzz Aldrin a long time ago. I've probably mixed them up before. Katie was 1/1 on FJ clues when she was not wearing a bolo tie. 0/3 on FJ clues when she was wearing a bolo tie. I finally remembered the diary guy but I've been pronounci...

Re: Tuesday, June 15, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

41R. 4/4 on big clues. Matched Quan and said tarantula. Missed bill of health and said bill of lading. Missed heresy and drew a blank trying to think of apostasy. The Joker clue threw me off and I thought Hildur Gudnadottir was the name of an award in Iceland. I did not realize she was a woman who w...

Re: Learned League 89 - May/Jun '21

I knew sinister was related to being left handed and I’ve seen the etymology of ambidextrous somewhere before but I didn’t think of that connection. Went from Spanish derecha to Derek. Kicking myself for missing Dexter and Venice.
