Presumably, this is also a tryout to be the permanent host though it looks like there will be several other interim hosts.

Jeopardy! Contestant Test
I don't pop in here that often, so I may have missed the discussion of this issue. If so, I apologize for the repetition. Back in the early days of the contestant test, TPTB announced that 35/50 was a passing score. I specifically heard them say this at a contestant search way back in 1985. But then...

Re: Tuesday, April 7, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Odd FJ wager from Kayla. Did she make a math error there? We'll find out on Thursday or Friday unless she makes an online comment earlier. There are many individual targets and goals for wildcard scores. She may have felt 16500 was the spot to be above? I felt that it was a reasonable wager for a Q...

Re: Fun with GSN's "Master Minds"
I enjoyed this as well, if for no other reason than the fact I would have beaten Ken Jennings in those final 5 questions  How did you "beat" him when he got them all right? I was beat the to buzzer for my first comment. (BrigadierSolo13's post was on Sunday so the remark was about the prev...

Re: Fun with GSN's "Master Minds"
I liked the faster pace. I don't think it's must watch TV, but I did prefer it to its previous incarnation. I agree. The faster pace packing in more questions made the show much more enjoyable to watch. I stopped watching the previous incarnation after a handful of episodes because it didn't grab m...

My Jeopardy! dreams usually look like this:

I never noticed this before, but there's no exclamation point in the name of the show in this video.

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Central), January 29, 2020
To be a bit contrarian - I found the Wed test (43) a little easier than Tuesday's (41), thought most of my misses on Wed were in the second half. As long as they get a certain number of passers, I don't know why they would care about the perceived relative difficulty of certain tests. You can't wat...

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Central), January 29, 2020
I think the examples of the tests of Tuesday and Wednesday present an excellent example of the value of grading these tests on a curve. It seems that the overall impression here (and mine, too) is that the Wednesday test was noticeably more difficult than the Tuesday test. I would hope that TPTB are...

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Central), January 29, 2020
WHAT? I actually passed this one? I'm in shock! I had my kid stay up past bedtime to keep my score for me (writing checkmarks / question marks / X's depending on my confidence in each answer). I felt like I was doing pretty good but I normally get around 30-32 so I was surprised when we counted up ...

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Central), January 29, 2020
After scoring a 47 playing from the video last night, dropped to a 41 tonight. Definitely harder. The difference was not only because of the "real" vs. the "simulated" taking of the test. Started off great with a quick 12 in a row. Drew a blank on mixologist, not my only blank of the night. Then I m...

Re: 2020 Online Test announced - Jan 28, 29, 30
I'm wondering if TPTB adjust the passing score based on how people do on each sitting. At this point, they have LOTS of historical data plus tens, if not hundreds, of thousands, taking each test. In the very old days (like when I first took the test back in 1985), the passing score was announced as ...

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Eastern), January 28, 2020
Got 47/50 playing from Sherder's video. Thanks, yet again! Will most likely take it for real Wednesday though I may wait until Thursday. Got confused by the phrasing on the Tunisia question. Did they mean Tunisia's western border or the border of the question. When I figured this out a few seconds l...

... I know the wives of VII are a J! favorite. Why did I not memorize them? And why did I not think of using "divorced BEHEADED died"? She's the only one that was beheaded - and I literally saw a musical about the six wives just a few months ago! ... It's Divorced-Beheaded-Died-Divorced-Beheaded-Su...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 3 (1/9/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I always assumed that they didn't allow for erasures, given the large number of cross-outs seen - but why? Some legal reason? Are they afraid some contestant will hit "clear" accidentally? (Now that I think about it, that's probably it.) Microsoft Paint has a "clear" button. The technology is there...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 3 (1/9/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Although I agree with James' sentiment of his FJ! response, I didn't like his particular choice in expressing it.
Calling someone suffering from a potentially fatal disease a "GHOST", however well-intended, doesn't sit well with me.

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 3 (1/9/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
We've now seen the equivalent of a crush (match 1), a 2/3 game (match 2) and a lock (match 3).
Ken had the crush and the lock while James just managed the 2/3 game. With his FJ! record, though, a 2/3 game is almost as good as a lock.

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 3 (1/9/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Last night, Ken made a comment about being able to say "OK Boomer" to Alex. But Alex is not a member of the baby boomer generation. Although the exact years of birth for boomers can vary a little bit, I've never seen 1940, his year of birth, included in such a range.
