Re: Friday, December 31, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

My first inclination was S & G but soon dismissed it because I was pretty sure they were singing together in elementary school. Went to Lennon and McCarthy but I had a dim recollection that those two had met on a bus, but then I decided that was Mick and Keith so stayed with the right answer. N...

Re: Tuesday, December 21, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Does anyone know how we're supposed to pick the correct answer from these four seemingly viable options?: Louisa May Alcott Mary Baker Eddy Julia Ward Howe Harriet Beecher Stowe They all seem to have lived in the right era and the right area of the country. Since we're not expected to have encyclop...

Gayle King is possibly the world's most famous best friend.
But she didn't get a car.
Oprah bought her a house instead!

Re: Stories From Bar Trivia Night

A bunch of us brought kids one night, and they sat at a separate table and played as their own team. For the "identify the celebrity" round, here is what they came up with. Clearly they didn't grasp the common theme.

Years ago when I was on High School Bowl, my teammates and I had a rule: if the question is ever asking for a poet and we have no idea, just guess Langston Hughes rather than sit and stare (and we even put this into practice on one occasion, to no avail). For some reason I forgot to do this on FJ.

Just FYI, Sabathia spells his name “CC” (no periods). But the clue is still correct.

One of mayim's affectations seems to be that in the Jeopardy round she says "there's a daily double," when there is only one. And in the double jeopardy round she says, "there's the Daily Double," when there are two. I recall Alex doing similar on occasion. And me wanting to scr...

On the Egypt clue, I would have said Lake Nasser; the temple complex wasn’t under the actual Aswan High Dam. I think Matt’s response should have been negged. I didn't think about it at the time, but the category was "Historic Structures", so I'm going to give it to Matt and neg you. I als...

Clapton came to prominence in the 60s.
His first solo album was 1970; last was 2018. I also think he fails the top 5 charting requirement of the clue. But I would say this is a good guess.

On the first clue of the game, I said "anthropomorphism" for "personification". Judges? Definitely. But you only get it on reversal because we weren't prepared for it. That means your opponent got "personification" on the rebound and arguably won because of that. So we...

Yes and yes.
