Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Pacific), January 30, 2020

Plume for plumage? Merriam-Webster's definition for plume directs to plumage, and there's no "seven letter" restriction, so I think it's reasonable to count. Felt this one was between Tuesday's easier test and Wednesday's harder test. Good luck in getting happy emails, everyone! I would bet against...

I'm with you on this one.

Looks like I managed to sneak in with a 39. Thought this one was a bit tougher, although I got 40 and 39 from the video the last two nights. At least I'm consistent...

Re: Friday, December 6, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

"It's Not Rocket Science" was the crappiest, laziest category in a while. Please don't do anything like that again, J! writers. Did anyone else immediately think of Tim Kazurinsky's Dr. Jack Badofsky character on SNL once it became apparent where this category was going? (Edit: And yeah, I loved Al...

Re: Thursday, December 5, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

"Montgomery Ward" sent me down the line of "Christmas gifts" and all that I could come up with - after far more than the allotted thirty seconds - was "Jolly Old St. Nicholas". Never in a million years do I come up with Rudolph.

Guessed the right two, but flipped the sequence. Given the wording of the question, I would assume that this would be a case of "close, but..."

Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

Given that there were apparently only two of us from the board who signed up for Milwaukee, it is quite possible that the auditions might well have come and gone without our knowledge. I also signed up for Milwaukee - so there's at least 3 of us. :) Oops...I went off the list at the top of the firs...

Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

Congrats! Apparently we're just not going to schedule Milwaukee auditions huh We have seen in the past where a city would be on a list, and we never hear of auditions in said city. While there is no confirmation, but just speculation on my part, when this happens, they invite some of those to the n...

Re: James wouldn't have lost pre-James

Emma came in cold. She made that bet without having seen James play once. Sure. But she certainly is capable of dividing $2 million+/30+games Still, though. Emma has literally studied the game more than maybe three or four people here on JBoard. She knew what she was doing, James or no James. I wou...

Re: Adult Online Test: Apr 9, 10, 11

I know that getting an audition is a crap shoot, but I believe there are two different games going on. I try to remember that while Jeopardy! the show is a competition, Jeopardy! the contestant search is a casting process for a TV show. In my limited experience with quiz shows, it is an exceptional...

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Central), April 10, 2019

Barely squeaked by with 37. Would have done better except for a couple of inexcusable brain farts - added an extra "n" to "buccaneer", which DQ'd the answer given the category (it took me a few seconds to come up with the answer, and then I rushed it...but when the category is "9-letter words" and y...

Re: Friday, October 5, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

When the FJ clue was revealed, I was still in J/DJ mode, did a split-second scan for key words, spotted COSSAC, recognized it as some sort of military acronym, locked onto SAC...and immediately thought "Strategic Air Command". At least I recovered in time to come up with "Normandy Invasion" a...

Four years of HS Spanish would have paid off on FJ, if only. "Cerezas" = "cherries", and my thought would have been "Turkey leads the world? Who knew?" No second thoughts, though, even if I had been at the podium...the translation was just too perfect.

Re: 2018 World Quizzing Championships

Agreed with the others...Part 1 was harsh, and that also seemed to be the consensus among the others at our venue...those of us who were there last year as well were commenting at halftime as to how this year's test was so much tougher. I was quite relieved at the end of the second half to realize t...

Did TPH hack your account? Who clams on the online Test? <raises hand> Clammed on three last night where I had NFC. My past experience has been that that if I go wracking my brain for something that is pretty much guaranteed to be wrong anyhow, then scrambling to type in that blind guess, my panic ...

39 by my calculations, assuming that they accept "ultimate Frisbee "- TMI, judges? - and "Matrix" without the definite article. Even if they come down harsh on those, I should have a pass to my credit...no thanks to the first half of the test; I really was afraid I was in trouble by question 27 (8 w...

Finally signed up, and they did not give me a city at first...I had to click "edit" on my test registration, and that did the trick. Hope to see you in St. Louis (a long drive for me, but better than Detroit, and nowhere near as bad as it would be for a certain Winnipeg resident...)
