If you gave me 100 years and 1000 guesses I could never have come up with Dalton Trumbo.

Re: Who says "35" was never reported as the passing score?

Yeah I don't think it was ever people saying 35 was "never" reported, just that for a number of years (maybe coincidiing with the introduction of the onlinetest but that's just a guess) they seemed to stop saying the number publicly so it was open to speculation. Based on the 2019 article I guess s...

Re: Friday, October 16, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Ten TSs worth $9800 plus a sole get on FJ. Easiest 4th-podium win (or should that be lectern?) ever. Really, really a weak performance by all three contestants. I know the CCs are limiting themselves to the LA area, but is this really the cream of the contestant crop?

Re: Fourth Podium Poll for 10/16/2020 (Part 2)

I got several of the ones listed here plus several more not included: "Ah," Pearl, Bill Murray, vacuum, steam, "to boldly go," don't go there, you can't go home again, JFK, Old Ironsides. That was 10, good for $9,800. Even if I bet zero on FJ that was a fourth-podium win. In reality I came up with A...

Fred Dean, Hall of Fame DE for 49ers and Chargers, has died after battling COVID-19.
Wow. Happen to know his age? He couldn't have been terribly old. Young and strong and dead from the virus. Just wow.

Speak for yourself, Mark. I would've been happy if Billboard 2020 never saw the light of day. How is Glass Menagerie a TS? Tennessee Williams is a Pavlov for that play. Is it just me or is the writing just terrible this season? Nothing to pin FJ on, went with bipolar. :? I agree regarding Billboard...

How in the world was this a triple stumper? Maybe they overthought it? Kevin seems really good, though. Three for three on locking it up before final. His competition has not been very strong for any of his wins. But yeah, 3-for-3 lock games is good performance for anyone under any circumst...

Re: Monday, October 12, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

It was not until going to the contestant responses and then reading the predictions at Fikkle that I began to realize that the clue was not as easy as I first thought. Perhaps there is an advantage for native Californians on it? This is one of those finals where you either know it or you don't. I d...

Don't cry for me, Argentina. I read that clue and jumped on the enormous South American country so fast that I never, ever bothered to think of an alternate. I take some consolation: even though Argentina is only about one-third the land area of Australia, it seems like a much closer contest when yo...

FJ is killing me this season. I came in at about 70% for the whole of last season, down to about 50% in the early going this time. Gotta eat my mental Wheaties.

This game was preempted in Cleveland for the (delayed/rescheduled) NFL game after another team was hit by Covid. I have a bad, bad feeling that this NFL season is not going to conclude the usual, hoped-for way.

(BTW between Smith and Lewis, I managed to get to Ali.)

Took a few seconds, but I came up with TR. I think that was where he got the Bull Moose tag. Precisely. "It takes more than that to kill a bull moose," he told his listeners, before launching into a 50-page speech with two bullet holes through it. Kind of an instaget if you know the story. Maybe. B...

Coryat $45,200 (50R, 0W) DD 3/3 FJ  Pulled off the elusive sweep of the $2000 row for the first time this season. Had pulsar, but agree with the above that neutron star should be acceptable too. As a scientist, I also agree that this is the FJ I'd want to see if my life depended on it. :D ...

I'm a golfer and I never even came close to guessing a golfer in this FJ. Found myself wondering (jokingly) if George Blanda is still playing, but never thought of Phil.

I think I need (another) nap.
