Re: FJs for the 1/11/21 week

I checked "yes" for the holey book. However, I'm pretty sure I left off "very". I suspect I may be stretching things there. My wife used to be a pre-school teacher. She burned through more than one copy of the book. So it's a bit embarrassing to not be perfectly correct. Neither long live, nor the m...

Re: Ken Jennings as a Host Poll

I'm another with mixed feelings. My main criticism of Ken is that it seems like he's trying too hard to be Alex. Or maybe he's just imitating the only example he knows. I think he's doing a fine job with running the game - at least in what makes it to air. Clues are spoken clearly and at a suitable ...

Re: Friday, January 15, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'm not entirely sure that watching The Crown was helpful. I've watched every episode. (It's a decent history primer, but can't be taken entirely at face value - there's a fair amount of literary license in it, but major events are based on actual history.) I knew JFK was wrong because they made a b...

Re: FJs for the 12/14/20 week

Monday was a slightly lucky, slightly educated guess. I knew the House opened in the early 70s, so the time frame was right. I also know how much the show loves the place. And Utzon was ringing some bells. Tuesday was a solid get. Knew the namesake was always on the cover, although I thought they ha...

Re: Wednesday, December 9, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Combined with all the things that completely fall back out of my head after the 10,000th time I've tried to learn them (e.g., which planet is the biggest)... All I know for sure is that you have an admirable ability to persevere when faced with a task that is difficult for you. Some people have an ...

Re: Wednesday, December 9, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Apparently, my poor knowledge of literature is worse than I thought. Many people, including the contestants found the answer pretty easy. But what gets me worried is when TPH calls it an instaget. Good for him! Not so good for me. I guess I'll have to let google start answering the response. ...

    :( :( Mon, Tues, and Wed were pretty straightforward for me. Thought about Madonna for a moment, but was pretty sure she wasn't right. Also recalled that the other half of the singing duo was mayor of Palm Springs for a while, so that useless ...

Re: What ought to happen next?

(I don't think I've publicly come out in support of Brooke Burns, but she's my #1 choice. She has experience hosting various quiz formats, and she'd bring the same kind of class to the game that Alex did.) Is she going to continue to host The Chase, when that gets rebooted with the J! GOAT contesta...

Re: What ought to happen next?

Not much continuity with a revolving door I think the continuity is in terms of new shows being produced and aired. Not necessarily in seeing the same host every week. I wonder if they can get back to the usual taping schedule of 5 shows a day, 2 days a week. That might be a lot to ask out of a gue...

Re: FJs for the 11/16/20 week

Monday was a fairly quick solve. Tuesday, I still have no idea who this Javert guy is. (Edit - OK, read the other posts in this thread and now I at least know what made it gettable for so many.) Wednesday, played around with hippo and equine. I know very well that philo- is greek-ish for love, but i...

I think the next host should be a hologram of Alex Trebek.
If you're going there, it might be easier to borrow Doc Brown's DeLorean, go back 20 years, and bring that version of Alex back with you.

Maybe make it 19 years back to get the freshly shaven Alex. Better continuity that way. :P

For a little TV crossover, did anyone else notice that Sleepy Hollow, New York was a puzzle on Wheel in their Thursday show? Made getting that clue trivially easy for me.

Re: Monday, October 26, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'm in the LA Metro area, which is a day late again all week due to Monday Night Football. (Hmm - football might make a nice category. Bet that would trip up a few contestants! ) WWI airplane had me yelling at the screen before Alex was finished reading. FJ - two precalls. Dead Sea Scrolls and...

Re: Monday, October 12, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Monday Night Football pre-empted J! here in the Los Angeles area. Shows are a day late all week. I’m another in the cicada camp. Thought about some generic beetle, but figured that was too vague. As soon as Alex gave his hint, I knew the answer. I knew of the annual migration to Mexico, but didn’t k...

Re: Wednesday, September 30, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The presidents who were elected in years divisible by 20 and died in office are the markers on which I hang their successors and predecessors. That T. Roosevelt succeeded McKinley - who won the 1900 election - initially threw me for a loop. But then I recalled the story from his time post-presidency...

PS - My precall for FJ was that whatever it was we were going to look for around the great lakes, it wasn't the Erie Canal. Not with the Panama canal on the DJ board - with it's negbait Suez canal lurking in the background for those who aren't attentive to dates. No canals.
