Re: Wednesday, April 7, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Apparently, I have a hole in my knowledge big enough to drive an ax (or, to start another spelling kerfuffle, is it axe??) murderer through. Or maybe NOT an axe murderer since she was acquitted. At any rate, I didn't get this one and had no idea who to write down. Blank screen for me today, which I ...

Re: Tuesday, April 6, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Put me down as another TR. I briefly thought of Lincoln because of the cabin, but dismissed that as being the wrong century. Unfortunately, that version of cabin stuck, and I never considered any other kind of cabin. TR was the best I could do, knowing that he went on vacation after McKinley was shot.

For those who might be unsure about how Aaron Rodgers took that little shout out from Scott in FJ, the producers posted a video with a bit of post game chat included. Short story - he took it very well. Here you go (skip to 2:10 in if you'd like):

Re: How Did Dr. Oz Do as Host? (His actual performance, not your opinion of him)

I will start by saying I do not like Dr. Oz as a television personality. I have no basis to judge him as a doctor, so I will not. But I can - as requested - stick to his performance as a Jeopardy! guest host. I thought he did quite well. As others have noted, the pace at which he read the clues was ...

Re: Wednesday, March 31, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Wow! I'm really in the minority here. 1. I [heart] NY was a slam dunk for me. And I've only spent brief amounts of time out of California. West Coast native for sure. The designer of the logo was no help. But when I think of 9/11, I think of NYC first. The added words sealed the deal for me. Very su...

Re: FJs for the 3/22/21 week

There are some advantages to being older. One of them is living through stuff that the youngin’s call history. I attended one of the events at the 1984 Olympics, which was not that long after I got married. So that year is pinned very well for me. Then it’s just a matter of remembering that the LA C...

Re: FJs for the 3/15/21 week

Read all three books, saw all 4 movies. So yeah - I knew that one. Put me down for another alabaster. I'm not going to claim it as all that great a guess. I figured out the stone angle, but mis-read the clue and was naming stones instead of cities. The city and type of marble are familiar to me, but...

Re: Rank the Three Guest Hosts So Far

I'll be a slight contrarian and put Katie ahead of Ken. I believe that J! is first a TV show, then a game show. As TV, Katie's comfort on camera shined through. Ken seemed a little out of place, and Mike - well - stick to producing, please. I'll admit that Ken may have done slightly better on the ga...

Re: Monday, March 15, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Sounds like I'm an odd duck out. I got FJ instantly, but couldn't for the life of me pull the name of the book/movies. All I could come up with was Mockingjay. I'm also odd in that read all three books and saw all three movies - and liked them. Who doesn't like a good dystopian tale?

Re: FJs for the 3/8/21 week

The Bradbury story was one of the few to make an impression on me in high school. Not enough of an impression for me to recall the author or title. But I instantly recognized the scene and knew the insect involved. Im pretty sure this story got me to thinking about time travel in fiction.

Re: How Did Mike Richards Do as Host?

It took me watching the first game with Katie Couric to figure out what bothered me with Mike. Katie is very comfortable on camera. Mike looked uncomfortable the whole time. To some extent, Ken had the same problem - not entirely comfortable - although I think he got better as his time progressed. I...

Re: PRESIDENTIAL BIRTHPLACES 3/2/21 J! Round

There was sufficient press about the first guy's birthplace for me to get that one. Should have gotten Hope. Knew that but couldn't pull it in time. No clue at all on 3 and 4. I live just a few miles from the last guy's library and birthplace. Any one who lived through his Presidency likely thinks t...

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread

I'll be glad to be done with Mike Richards after today. He seems just a bit too enamored with Johnny. Not that Johnny doesn't deserve it, of course. But there's a line between acknowledging his contributions and fawning over them. Mike crossed that line some time last week. I think we're into the dr...

Re: Thursday, March 4, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Managed to dope out FJ - something I don't always do well. The military in general likes to name things. So I figured this was something that was first used in Korea. If it had been used earlier, it would have been named earlier. That rules out artillery and tanks and wheeled vehicles of various typ...

Re: Fun with ABC's "The Chase" [Spoilers]

Girls Who Code is the name of a company? J! had the CEO of Girls Who Code read clues on Monday! I guess we know which show taped first. I wonder if there were some behind the scenes moaning on the day Ken taped that J! episode. [Ken's voice in my mental image] We're having WHO read the clues in a c...

Re: FJs for the 2/1/21 week

Prior to the Tuesday FJ! clue I knew that "Seuss" could rhyme with "rejoice". That's how I solved that one. If I didn't know the [alternative|correct] pronunciation, I doubt I would have solved it. The choice of using a rhyme for his name confirmed it for me. I doubt that would have been enough on ...

Count me as yet another sheep in FJ! I have heard of Londonderry. But if pressed, I would have placed it on the neighboring large island to the East. Didn’t know it had a short form in common use.

Re: FJs for the 1/11/21 week

I checked "yes" for the holey book. However, I'm pretty sure I left off "very". I suspect I may be stretching things there. My wife used to be a pre-school teacher. She burned through more than one copy of the book. So it's a bit embarrassing to not be perfectly correct. Neither long live, nor the m...
