Re: Monday, January 20, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Welcome, Traci! This was an enjoyable game to watch, and your enthusiasm was one thing that made it so. I stood at the same podium many years ago, and upon watching my tape, I realized that I had a grim expression on my face as if my dog had just died. (I came in second, too. Curse of the Third Podi...

Re: What Alex Has Been Asked

In 2008 an audience member asked Alex "Boxers or briefs?"
The answer was "boxers." A few times he has even come onstage sans culotte.

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 2 (1/8/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

History is not my strongest area, but sometimes I get some unexpected help from a pop culture source. The Napoleon/Madison connection instantly came to mind because I am a fan of the Bruce Campbell television series Jack of All Trades, in which Napoleon was played by the incomparable Verne Troyer.

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

See, what gets me is that the only way to make things "easier" is to splinter them into a bunch of smaller problems, which just sends my brain running in the other direction from the heaps of work that have just been added. I think many trivia lovers would not view this as "work." Teasing out infor...

(Edit: Apparenly J Board shrinks whitespace?) [ code ] tags not only put the enclosed text in a monospaced font, but preserve the appearance of multiple spaces. They're indispensable for me when I do wagering suggestions for final games of multi-day J! matches, when I want four different scores (ga...

I am sorry to see Elise go. She had elegance and wit, and her wardrobe demonstrated both. When I heard her anecdote about the "Miss Boris Karloff" cat, I feared that she had sealed her doom.

Every now and then when I watch Jeopardy!, there's a stunning synchronicity. As I watched this game, I was wearing this shirt. Needless to say, I had no difficulty with FJ. Image

Re: Monday, September 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I don't know where my brain was vacationing during Final Jeopardy!, but my response was "Goth." If I'd been a contestant, maybe my sloppy handwriting could've made it look enough like "Gath" to get me the win, but I doubt it. Now I am imagining Goliath with his hair dyed black, wearing eyeliner and ...

My guesses:
Jeopardy!
500 Questions
1 vs 100
Sesame Street

[EDIT: having looked at IMDB, I can't help hearing an imaginary voice saying "Oooh, sorry."]

Page 3 is unusual to have to find this thread. To bump it up it's bad news as I only found out today that Denise Nickerson (Violet Beauregarde in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory ) died on July 10th at age 62. Besides the iconic film role I also remember her in the "Two Petes in a Pod" episode o...

Re: JBoard Demographic Survey

When this poll was first posted, there were no respondents in the 70+ bracket. I am now over 70, and I would not be surprised if a few other boardies are, as well. I hope so, anyway. Being the oldest person in the room is not something I relish.

Re: Your Screenname: What inspired it?

I've used "pinkfreud" as a screen name ever since the days of dial-up computer bulletin boards. I used to be an aptitude testing specialist in a government office, and my co-workers called me "Doc Freud." When I was trying to think of an online nickname, I didn't want people to think I was male, so...

Re: Messages will return to Final

I'm betting they would not do digital editing, for legal reasons. If they are known to have ever digitally edited anything that a contestant has written in FJ, that might open the door to the possibility of (false) allegations that something has been altered if there's a dispute over what someone ha...

Re: Thursday, June 6, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which has both a park and a museum named after Woody Guthrie, so this FJ was a "gimme" for me. I assume that Emma was thinking of Arlo, who is better known these days, thanks to the enduring success of "Alice's Restaurant."
