Re: Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions alternates - who were they
On my tape date (the next-to-last in the opening round), there were no alternates present. Josh DenHartog, who played at the last Round 1 tape date, reports to me that he was the alternate on one tape day before actually getting to play, and that he thinks there was someone there when he taped, but...

Re: Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions alternates - who were they
Does anyone know who the alternate(s) for the Ultimate Tournament of Champions were? I don’t think I’ve seen that discussed in this thread yet and I’m curious to know if there were any. On my tape date (the next-to-last in the opening round), there were no alternates present. I suspect the staff ha...

Re: Tuesday, December 5, 2023 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The poll will tell if even having watched the show equals a solve. In my case, it did not. I love this show and it did not occur to me in those 30 seconds. Maybe given more time it would have. Major head slap. Same here. "Title locale" in the clue led me to try to think of a recent series...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
The person mentioned in the answer has a Wikipedia article describing his career in that profession so it’s possible one might have been familiar with him that way. (I have no idea how well he might have been during his career). He died six weeks prior to the tape date given in the archive so it’s ...

Actor David McCallum, of Man from U.N.C.L.E and NCIS and many other roles, aged 90: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2023/sep/25/david-mccallum-man-from-uncle-ncis-dies-age-90 Sad to read this. In addition to what you mentioned, he was also (I think) the last surviving adult cast member of ...

The only thing I can think of is that he is worried that people are going to lose on purpose to get into the second chance. but that is something that just came out of the top of my head The only thing I thought of is that the SCT could lead to some FJ wagers that aren’t ideal. Player A (champ): $2...

Pam Mueller scored Podium No. 3 from the "sushi bar" set when it was auctioned for charity in 2002. Now we know what happened to Nos. 1 and 2.

I've always associated John Barry with the Bond theme. Norman's name was new to me. Still, the elements in the clue pointed to no one else but 007.

Kudos to Lucas for that single get. Glad to know some among his generation are familiar with Tim O'Brien.

The only place I can remember hearing the phrase is in the chorus of the John Prine song "Sam Stone" but it was an instaget because I've heard the song about a zillion times since Prine's debut album in 1971. I'd provide a link but that seems beyond my ken, sorry. We lost John in the earl...

As for FJ, I briefly considered Cop Rock (which also premiered in 1990), but concluded it was too obscure for regular play. From there, it was an easy leap to the correct response.

Gaylord Perry, Baseball Hall of Famer and two-time Cy Young winner, dies at 84 Perry was known as the master of the spitball. This raises the question of how many people mentioned in "Talkin' Baseball" are still alive. I count at least seven: George Brett, Pete Rose, Reggie Jackson, Rod C...

Never judge a Jeopardy player by the gray in their hair. Score one for supposed slower synapsed set. A little digging showed he graduated high school in 1979, so that would make him approximately 61 years old. A nice representation of the AARP crowd indeed. Would Sam be the oldest ToC finalist ever?

Wow the boxscore is out and it's even more impressive than I imagined for Sam. 52 buzzer attempts, dwarfing all of the other 17 TOC players we saw in the quarterfinals. And 34 right answers, not sure how that ranks all time for TOC games but one person I checked, James Holzhauer, topped out at 33 i...
