I sit corrected! We'll have to take away $1,600. Cheezguytv, you pick as we continue.

Re: Before and After: WoF or J?

Before & After appeared as a category first on Wheel in 1989, and on J! on 4/1/97 (the Pat Sajak-hosted episode), as has been mentioned here a bunch. Since then, however, it is apparently the most common recurring category type to appear on J! ("recurring category type" here refers to things like "C...

Re: Tuesday, September 11, 1984 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The last thing I noticed was that the Daily Double sound was different. When was this changed? My research led me to the Jeopardy! History Wiki (no doubt inspired by another such game show's Wiki with which we are both familiar) which has it changing "by the November 26/84 episode"; apparently more...

Did they hit the ignorance tone at all on last night's show? This might have been the first time we heard it.

They should bring back the awkward walk out. Why'd they get rid of that?
ISTR they had planned to get rid of it right around the time that Eddie Timanus was first a contestant in 1999. Certainly his appearance on the show accelerated that timeline.

Re: Monday, September 10, 1984 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I also notice they cut out part of Alex's opening explanation held over from the Fleming days, where he explained that "when you hear this sound-- <ditditditditditditditditditditditdit>-- it means you are out of Jeopardy! ". EDIT: They're also fading quickly into the commercial breaks instead of the...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I almost put down "Chicago dog", then reread and went "Passyunk sounds like a NJ or PA thing... Pennsylvania sandwich? Philly cheesesteak!" Took a lucky W to close out the week; thankfully my opponent from Leeds hadn't heard of The Partridge Family.

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I misunderstood the question and put all three. Didn't end up mattering, as I lost 5(3)-9(6). My record is now a perfect 2-2-2 going into MD7.

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

My opponent yesterday (from Ireland) gave me (a Canadian) 3 points on the hockey question. It wouldn't have made any difference to the overall result, but I just thought it funny that given what this country is known for, they might have defended differently. ETA: I picked Ovechkin, FWIW. I remember...

"Penalties in minutes", or PIM, is how it's usually notated on a box score.

Feels like a bloody Kids' Week episode after the first three nights of GOAT.

FJ!:  Could not pull Iran for the life of me, all things considered. Big "oof".

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 1 (1/7/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Holy hot damn, Brad Rutter lost a match of Jeopardy! against two meatbags. The People's Champ, Ken Jennings, wins night one. That alone is probably the biggest J! news of the modern era.

FJ! took me longer than I care to admit, but I got there before the music ended. Went down the garden path towards Westerns first, then briefly thought of What's My Line? when seeing Sunday, before finally going "Oh, 1964. Beatles. Ed Sullivan."

Re: Monday, September 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Another couple of subtle graphical changes: the clue zoom now "eases" as it gets to its final position (this is more noticeable with the bottom row clues), and the over-the-shoulder Daily Double graphic eases in, eases out, and the rotation as the clue is revealed is slightly faster. These speeds we...
