Re: Friday, January 17, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

It wasn't really pinned... if the Duke of Edinburgh can be used then presumably any of his children or grandchildren can be used, as well. Then it becomes a game of "who is most likely to have consented to donate their DNA" and I would pick a younger person over an older person in a heartbeat.

The weird thing is my DVR kept recording last night's primetime sitcoms thinking it was GOAT match #5.

Re: J! in the Media

A former contestant gave the Archive a shout-out in a tiny blurb in The New York Times today: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/16/briefing/impeachment-russia-puerto-rico.html What we’re answering in the form of a question: J! Archive, a fan-created compilation of more than 380,000 clues from “Jeopard...

30 seconds of staring and trying to think of a picture book along the lines of Where the Wild Things Are or Make Way for Ducklings . Dude, that's the Caldecott. Incidentally, the 1963 Caldecott was The Snowy Day , which, as was noted in the current events thread, was recently declared NYPL's most ch...

From now on Ken should just use GOAT as a suffix to his name, like ASC or OBE

Maybe all those people who lost to James and Ken along the way will finally get to come back
Ken winning GOAT is like having Jordan vs. Bird face-offs three times, Jordan winning all three face-offs, then putting LeBron in the mix and Bird winning. Bird is GOAT now? Really?

Re: Your prediction for GOAT tonight Jan. 14

My big concern about Ken winning is I feel like it won't have settled the question. If Brad wins, question settled. He's beaten Ken three times before and to have done it once more with the new guy in the mix is icing on the cake. Brad's the GOAT. If James wins, question settled. He went up against ...

For the record, the replacement clue was "Bascilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe" and Jack rang in first with the correct response of "What is Mexico?"

American Factory is distributed by Obama's production company, but Oscars-dot-com lists the nominees as Steven Bognar, Julia Reichert and Jeff Reichert.
Whoops. I was relying on a misinformative news headline. Thanks for the correction.

Re: 2020 Current Events Study Guide

Further regarding the Oscars, I believe this marks the first time that a U.S. president (current or former) has been nominated for an Oscar. Reagan's Kings Row was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1943, but not Reagan himself. (A Reagan short film, Beyond the Line of Duty , also w...

Regarding the Oscars, celebrity couple Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach are both nominated for screenwriting, but fortunately aren't competing against each other. Does the fire refer to the pillar of fire?

Edit: Yeah, think so: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pillar_of ... theophany)

I didn't realize this pillar essentially led them around for 40 years. I thought it was just a nice little deus ex/weapon from heaven in The Ten Commandments.

Re: FJs for the 1/6/20 week

Mark, thank you for the last "fogey" option on this poll. I never could have gotten this right because I have always seen it as "fogey" and never as "fogy". "Fogy" doesn't even look like a word to me. It looks like a 5-year-old's misspelling of "foggy".
