Re: Tuesday, March 24, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

That Final should've been a triple get... it's not as if they haven't asked about Emma Lazarus/"The New Colossus" in Final many times before

Re: J! in the Media

Now seems like a good time to remind anyone sequestered with a TV that gets Xumo that the streaming service has the recent Alex Trebek documentary Game Changers available for free (with intermittent ads).

Re: J! to Tape Without Live Audience

I think this will be impacting Hollywood and most industries for 18 months conservatively, unless summer miraculously does in the virus like the President predicted a few weeks ago. But what I meant by "if at all" was that Alex and/or Johnny could retire or worse, due to coronavirus or otherwise. So...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

For Video and Audio Daily Doubles, how and where to note them? I am definitely guilty of using (VIDEO DAILY DOUBLE) above the clue's wording or [AUDIO DAILY DOUBLE] or some form of Audio Daily Double without all caps. For my part, I would prefer no notations, because the clue text field is supposed...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

The letter K will appear at the end of each clue. or The letter "K" will appear at the end of each clue. This is a tricky use–mention distinction use case. Here is my understanding based on the last time I researched it, but someone can correct me if they feel this is not correct: The letter K will...

Re: J! to Tape Without Live Audience

I'm guessing Season 36's goose is cooked and Season 37 will start late if at all.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

Is there an agreed-upon standard for board games getting italics or not? The archive is not consistent while I know correction suggestions will come in about it. It's a good question... my feeling is that if there's some semblance of a story involved, it counts as a major "work" and should therefor...

That was odd. Saturday Night Live had already been on the air for more than 20 years when Tina Fey joined the cast.
OTOH, the first season with all three mentioned players was Season 27, which at this point was almost 20 years ago.

Did Alex call Tina Fey “the original SNL cast”?
No. He said "The early--the early days" and she said "Very early."

I didn't see anybody post Kim's romance novel cover from her interview story, so here it is.

Derp. Somehow I had the Magna Carta in 1315. It's slipups like that that worry me.
Do you watch Better Call Saul? The year of the Magna Carta was a plot point.

Re: Thursday, March 12, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Since I've got a lot of British friends and acquaintances, Dick Van Dyke's atrocious Cockney accent in "Mary Poppins" has long been a topic of conversation. Strangely, though, nobody ever calls him to task for the accent of the other character he played in the film, the elder Mr [Dawes]. In the rec...

I can't say that when I saw Jessica's name on the Contestant Zone website on Monday I wasn't praying Alex wouldn't make the slip that he did.
Triple negative. You can do better.
I can't not say I wasn't not hoping Alex wouldn't not get Jessica's name wrong.

Good point. https://youtu.be/KkGTwmJxHA0 Awesome clip. His late-in-life senile/insensitive remarks aside, Jerry Lewis is underrated--he wasn't just shtick, but a performer of versatility and precision and an auteur storyteller with few peers in terms of the control he was able to wield. He could ha...

Re: J! in the Media

Johnny (and Kelly, since she announces Monday-Wednesday, but gets dubbed over Johnny) did announce the number of games Jennings won during the taping, Kelly didn't join the show until 2005. And her last day on the job was 2018-12-18. And Johnny was still doing all five games in 2010. Not sure when ...

Re: J! to Tape Without Live Audience

Assuming this is Alex’s last hurrah, what if this lasts the rest of the season? His last show would be a bit surreal I would think. - Given that the tapings usually go until April and resume in June, it is practically certain that it will last the rest of the season. - If his recent message is any ...

Re: FJs for the 2/24/20 week

At this point, [sixteen] Schroedinger's cats have neither eaten a Filet-O-Fish nor never eaten a Filet-O-Fish. I wonder if there are any of those cats who have both eaten and not eaten a Filet-O-Fish. Your statement is logically identical to mine under de Morgan’s Theorem. (F + F')' = F' * F = F * ...
