Re: A Question Regarding a Certain Part of the Jeopardy Archive (involving text of, "Show #2712 - Tuesday, May 21, 1996"

The book Game Over: How Nintendo Zapped an American Industry, Captured Your Dollars, and Enslaved Your Children by David Sheff describes the naming controversy and the trademark infringement lawsuit by Universal Studios more completely than I can. So did they get sued by the owners of King Kong? Ho...

I thought of Terms of Endearment first because the astronaut character stands out, was blocked by Apollo 13 for a while though I knew it was much later. I love The Right Stuff, should have been immediate...I suppose it was 18 years ago!

I'm pretty sure I got the FJ in 2002, maybe even the last time it was on the show in 2017, but I just couldn't dredge it up tonight. Been a while since I thought about that story... I heard Stephen Lang, who was in Death of a Salesman with Dustin Hoffman, talk about it in an interview just yesterday...

Re: Wednesday, May 1, 2002 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I remember reading somewhere where Frank thought and thought afterward and concluded that he simply had never heard of Kim Philby. I first knew of him from his obit in the New York Times. I later read "My Secret War" which was a waste of time (for me) and 48¢ (of mine). He implausibly claims not to...

COMEDY TEAM This comedy team got its start under the name "Ted Healy and His Southern Gentlemen" Man, this took me waaaaay longer than 30 seconds to dredge up from the depths. I think it's Who are the Three Stooges? I watched a movie from 1934 on Turner recently in which they were billed as The Thr...

And if they're going to change this clue, shouldn't they change the Al Jolson one as well? After all, he uttered that line in blackface. And Wayne Brady's the one who rang in! For the record, when Jolson spoke that line in The Jazz Singer, he wasn't in blackface. https://www.google.com/search?q=jol...

Original 2001 recording: It matches the Pocahontas clue as in the archive. That's... just weird. I mean, it wasn't a great clue but it doesn't seem offensive. 2001 clue: She's the subject of the 17th century headline seen here: "LOCA POCA!! Apparently Jeff Probst didn't know that The Sound of Music was a Broadway show, or he didn't know Camalot was a musical, since he thought one was a play and the other wasn't... And speaking of tricky terminology, it's sad that even 19 years ago, the J! writers didn't know or care that a Broadway rec...

For the country music clue about the Grand Ole Opry, it seemed that Chuck's response was "Grand OLD Opry", not "Grand OLE Opry". I rewound and listened three times and I distinctly heard a "d" sound added to "Ole". I guess they weren't as strict with things back then. In the modern era, a score cor...

Also in the 80s category: Oregon trail. This time, without "Oregon" twice in the clue, thankfully...but still overpriced as a fourth row clue. Writers must have come down with dysentery. That DD ruined my game...I was competitive with Frank until that moment...I saw the clue and said, Well, it's no...

I would definitely go see that. I'm imagining a time machine configured like Luke's snow speeder. Probably piloted by Bill and Ted.
There is a new Bill &Ted movie, btw...
