Never heard of Leadville. Nick Charles was hard but gettable; he just didn't pop into my head although I've seen The Thin Man within the last couple of years. The rest were instagets.

I went with Barbara because she is the worst and most overrated singer since Tony Bennett. Schmaltz sells, somehow :( .
Ok everybody, let's gather around Mr. Grouch and sing "People" to him until he feels better.
But with Kurt Vonnegut's lyrics ("People who can eat people...")

would crab fishing have been accepted? or too specific? I couldn't organize an attack on this one in real time. I don't like the "most dangerous" descriptor. When it comes to homicide deaths, I think convenience store clerk was far more dangerous than law enforcement for several years. I'm sure if ...

Hardly. The average retirement age according to the Census Bureau is 63, so unless life expectancy has really gone way up, they're about 5-7 years too high. Keep in mind that by the time you reach age 63, on average, your overall life expectancy is higher than it was at birth. The age at which your...

Instaget FJ. I didn't realize it was released in 1700; for some reason I thought it was older. "Don't say St. Louis, don't say St...damnit". The Pony Express/St. Joseph connection strikes again. When's the last time a contestant got that right? Also, the average retirement last 8000 days? OK ... ~2...

I think it's funny that Amelia Bedelia made it for two different questions. :D
And not for the first time. The only thing I can figure out about Thorsten's sense of humor is that he'll laugh if you give the answer "Amelia Bedelia" to just about any question.

How could the Merrimack question have been the hardest? What did people answer for that, since Merrimack was already in the clue?
I was pretty sure it was renamed after a Southern state, but I couldn't remember anything more specific than that.

My brain was AWOL for parts of this week. Couldn't think of Canada as a French-speaking country. Couldn't pull Burning Man in time. And put me down as another distracted boyfriend who turned his head after Jefferson, incurring the wrath of Andrew Jackson.

How to overthink based on some half-assed superficial knowledge: I thought of E Street Band immediately, but dismissed it based on being confident that their keyboardist's name was Danny Federici. Well, it was, but I didn't even take into account the possibility that they had two keyboardists. So I ...

Assuming his buzz speed is the same across categories
That's a strong and probably unrealistic assumption. In my experience, buzzer speed is almost certainly affected by confidence.

1. The absolutely superhuman: He seems to know about 90% of J! material, and in an average game, he'd know 54 of the answers for an at-home Coryat of around 46000. That's not superhuman at all. I can't do that, but I can name at least 3 boardies for whom 54 correct would count as a below-average day.

I was really surprised by the low get rate on Romanov I thought about this one a long time and I can't say Romanov was something that really crossed my mind. "Rurikids" just doesn't scream Russian to me at all. I ended up putting Pahlavi. I knew that one, but expected it to be hard and assigned 3 p...

Only 35% recognize the Mercury Seven? I'm flabbergasted. Same here. And the weirder thing is that it had the lowest Avg D (1.0), which generally means that it was considered the easiest question. I assigned my opponent with an 88% get rate in American History a no-brainer "0", and she missed it. Di...

I considered Hillary to be from Illinois, but when I had counted back to Reagan, I assumed I did something wrong. Put down 2004, just to have something. First miss of the season. Just as an FYI, the time before 2016 was 1944 (FDR and Dewey both from NY). And that’s exactly what I said, having inexp...

I like the way Sam plays. Prospective contestants who are merely good and don't have uncanny Ken/Brad/James-like abilities can learn a lot from him.

On a negative note, we've had a lot of really bad FJ wagers by STEM professionals recently.

When this poll was first posted, there were no respondents in the 70+ bracket. I am now over 70, and I would not be surprised if a few other boardies are, as well. I hope so, anyway.
