Re: How Did Dr. Oz Do as Host? (His actual performance, not your opinion of him)
Like Mark Barrett, I was on the fence between 6 and 7. I'd say he started out as a 5 or 6 but was on his way to a 7. Ordinarily, that would cause me to mark him a 7. But I'd already rated Mike Richards a solid 7 and wanted my vote to reflect that Oz was a step lower than that. I'll also note that af...

I did know that the antidis word was church related, but negged on "Anglican Church". Wait, when did we decide Anglican was wrong? C of E and Anglican, AFAIK, are essentially synonymous and C of E is good so Anglican should be too. I was going off econgator's post. I don't know if we can have a def...

P.S. Alex wasn't immune to that kind of error himself; for example, there was a clue in my first game that he had to re-record because he read "in the '80s" as modifying the preceding words when it modified the following words (which threw me enough to cause me to clam on a correct response). This ...

Am I surprised they didn't ask for a BMS on Augusta National? No. But that's simply from a position of ignorance. You will never hear a pro of any kind refer to the course as simply Augusta. Nor will you hear a top amateur, nor a golf writer, nor anybody on The Golf Channel refer to it that way. It...

The thing I like best about the Carrera is that it has atwelvefootboy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 7:00 pmcitation:

Damn Porsche. Makes me feel better about my new BMW with their weird alphanumeric names. N.B. I also drive a BMW. https://jboard.tv/download/file.php?id=1010 My husband, a former BMW driver, approves of this message  Did the BMW association catch him yielding right of way and confiscate his car?

I missed the Dexter clue. I thought it was only on Showtime but it looks like it's been more widely distributed to other services now. I'll start watching that. I'd recommend against it. One of the most poorly written shows I've ever seen. Season 1 wasn't terrible although the twists were ridiculou...

Thank you Katie for the detailed explanation at the reveal. At least I know that my total made up WAG of Chickamonga was cromulent. I'm sure the writers provided the intel, but we've been left in the dark before by AT many times. This FJ was ungettable to me, if I finally remember Antietam, it does...

Re: Friday, April 9, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Seems like a lot of people forgot the category. Lots of British books being mentioned in this thread. Less "forgot the category," more "wasn't certain enough Watership Down is British not to guess it when it and the definitely-British Animal Farm are the only two names that come to mind." I was mos...

Also, I thought the FJ was oddly worded. One edition "shows a farm"? I assumed they were describing a cover illustration, but I couldn't be positive. Nevertheless, I got it right. Clearly it should have said "shows the farm"... ;) And I think George and Lenny bunked in the cabin with the other farm...

As an example of the closed captioner not having a clue, for 'Horus' they had 'Horace'. Oy. I don't generally use the captions unless I can't make out what someone is saying. So I don't notice these errors myself. But I'm sure seeing a lot more of these comments lately. For Thursday's game someone ...

I like Dennis. He looks like a cross between Walter White and Mike Ehrmantraut. We're all clear that Animal Farm doesn't fit the FJ category, right? Ditto Watership Down which is from 1972 anyway. And if it's a novella then War and Peace is a medium-sized novel. It's been close to 40 years since I r...

Sporcle probably has 100 different world capitals quizzes with different formats and layouts. You might be able to find one better suited for what you’re trying to do. I usually use Google to search for Sporcle quizzes and not their website if I’m trying to find something specific. I switched from ...

Yeah, that site is weird. If you scroll down to the next article, as one might do in the course of finishing the first article, the URL changes. The link above should work now.

Perhaps a very deep dive, but the name is iconic enough that it's conceivable it might pop up. Bombardier has announced that after 58 years of continuous production, Learjet production will cease before the end of 2021. https://aviationweek.com/business-aviation/aircraft-propulsion/end-era-bombardi...

I thought it was sort of strange that all three included Ms. Borden's first name (or some variant thereof). I think I would have. I'm 100% confident that I know Borden's first (nick)name. There's pretty much zero chance I'm wrong. I'm almost 100% confident that there are no other arguably plausible...

Re: Wednesday, April 7, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Amy got needlessly clowned on by the host for spelling slightly off (on the first name) when in that particular case I don't think it warranted a mention. After this season's Barry vs. Berry kerfuffle I'm not sure I agree. Great point. A year ago I'd have been 100% certain that Lizzy would be accep...
