Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

What are you trying to accomplish? I legit am trying to learn. Deep down, I do want to learn. Which is why I keep asking. Aight, I'll accept you are saying this in good faith, for the sake of argument. It's entirely obvious that your attempts to learn have abjectly failed. Most people would have le...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

Explicitly saying there is a "long" version of the weapon means the more common version is "short" Can't say I've heard of a short bow either. To me, it just seemed like a descriptor. Okay. Let's assume this comment is in good faith, you aren't the most long-running troll in the Internet's history,...

Re: Tuesday, February 23, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS) by Archivists

It's worth noting that Mike Nichols never won a writing Oscar. In fact he doesn't have a writing credit on any of his movies... There was a time when Francis Coppola was considered the greatest director working. In 1974 he released 2 great movies, The Godfather, Part Two and The Conversation . Now ...

Re: Tuesday, February 23, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS) by Archivists

I thought that was the easiest possible movie director clue but apparently I was wrong. I once knew a Sam Stapleton, a late grandfather of a good friend of mine, and, beyond him being a wise and kind man, I always thought his name sounded cool. Glad this Sam Stapleton represented his name well and t...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

1. No one says you HAVE to "blindly guess" London. YOU are the one suggesting "blindly guessing" is involved. The canonical way to answer the question would be to be aware that the first World's Fair was in London in 1851. This is not a piece of knowledge that is secretly guarded by dragons, it is ...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

Narrow it down to “A major world city hosting an international event in 1851”. There aren’t a lot of possibilities, plus we just had Paris the clue before, so that’s out. You could assume the first World’s Fair was going to be in a Tier One European city. London is certainly a reasonable guess. How...

You don't have to have. What color is found in the name of a sugar and the name of a bear?
To be fair, white would have worked here as well.

Military people on Jeopardy!

What's the protocol for wearing their uniforms? I know Manny Abell of the $1 win wore his on all his days, but presumably servicepeople (currently serving and former) don't always wear the uniform, otherwise I feel like it would be a more common sight.

thanks

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread

I get they were kind of thrown for a loop when Alex died. But TPTB should have had a better contingency plan in place than than a revolving door of guest hosts. The sad thing is, I think you're right... they were thrown for a loop. Yes. They were THROWN FOR A LOOP and "CAUGHT OFF GUARD" when an oct...

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread

If Dr. Oz clears the bar, why not Jerry Springer? He is far more erudite than this show would indicate, and probably would like the chance to host something more along those lines. Why not former President Bill Clinton? He's been featured in clues before, and would probably get a kick out of it. Why...

Re: Wednesday, December 2, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I didn't care for TJ and I am somewhat glad he is gone (it would really have been a shame if he went on a run and the last great champion of the Trebek era had a blue mohawk) but I can't help but feel bad... that DD was one of the hardest clues I have ever seen on this show. I mean, it makes sense,...

#4571 J2 #5949 DJ25 #7795 J10 (That's all that are in the Archive) That's sick man. The third one in particular is what I was looking for, where the three responses were all legitimately different things, whereas in the first two cases they were clearly all saying the same thing in different ways. ...

Three correct answers (two reversals?)

Hello, In this game (incidentally, Nissley #4): http://j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=3531, consider the $1600 A+4 clue: It's a saying that sets forth a general truth & has gained credit through long use Teresa guessed "axiom" was ruled wrong Nina guessed "adage" was ruled correct Later they rev...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 3 (1/9/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Interesting FJ... I have said before there is no Oscar-related question that Jeopardy! would ask that I wouldn't get (I don't know, something about facts about Oscars just sticks in my head like glue, I wish all information, especially more important information, was that easily assimilated), and th...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 1 (1/7/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Come on James... find those Daily Doubles. I like how everyone is bouncing around a bit now (still a little bit of staying in a category after a DD has been found there, but can't win 'em all)... don't know why it took 35 years to figure this out, Forrest had it down pat, but it seems only with Jame...
