Re: Friday, March 27, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

For FJ!, I figured TV wasn't a household item until the VERY late 40s, at earliest. Thought it would be past FDR, and even if FDR had been around for when TV really penetrated the market, they probably would have minimized his media exposure due to his "secret" wheelchair. Ike felt too late, and Tr...

Re: Friday, March 27, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe always jumped out to me as a weird name for a railroad because Atchison is a considerably smaller and more obscure town than Topeka or Santa Fe.

Re: Friday, March 27, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Ran Latin Phrases. Two weirdly symmetrical negs for me: was one letter too far on the Millennial generation, and one grade too early on "Tales of..." Precalled Lansing in Capitals and was stunned at the two negs. Then I derped the DD by somehow thinking California but still not pulling the trigger b...

Re: Thursday, March 26, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I seem to be regressing on this front. It used to be that every time a clue required multiple Central American countries, I would always manage to name every single one except the correct ones. Now, I seem to be utterly unable to name ANY of them. Should I just accept this as one of those knowledge ...

Alex continues to mispronounce "Aldean" again. First syllable rhymes with "pal", not "all". Ran Presidential Sweet and "OO", Sorry, and Looking for a Good Time. Blanked on Ariana Grande's name for 4/5 in Lyrics. Also had "ahoy" for "avast" for a 4/5 in Interjection. Police Squad was MASSIVE negbait ...

Re: Wednesday, March 25, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Ran Instrument Makers, 0/5 in Notable Italians. I've never heard the things that horses wear on their eyes called "blinkers" before. That was an oddly misleading clue, especially since it was the only "wearable" not worn by a human. "Female Superheroes" was a yawner of a category. NHO the bottom thr...

How the hell did I know "cherchez la femme" but not "chicharrones" or Ichabod Crane being a schoolteacher?

Rorschach seemed way too obscure for anyone else save for the comic nerds.

Kotter in one episode (and I paraphrase): "Kid's name is Horshach. Guess what all his classmates were calling him by the third grade. (laugh track) By the fourth grade the teachers were calling him that too."
As someone with the last name Peacock, I can totally relate.

Re: Tuesday, March 24, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I precalled the car I won on Wheel of Fortune in Car "Ma". Ran What an Idiom, all but rainforest in Geographical. Jamestown is one of those generic names that always escapes my brain when I need it. Bizarrely, $2,000 was my only get in "CH" Squared. Can't say I recognize $1,200 or $1,600 at all. Fem...

Re: Monday, March 23, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

$35,600 sets a new Coryat record for me. Ran Anagrammed Reptiles, Ends in Ash, and It's How You Win. Despite this, I thought "Barrel of Monkeys" was a bit tricky for the top box, especially with Monopoly at $600. Gulfstream was my only NHOI/miss in Fancy. Precalled Mackinac Bridge in Bridges and Osc...

Re: FJs for the 3/16/20 week

Found another extremely low-polling top box in regular play. "Goop.com" was 17% back in 2014 . That seems to be a really tough week for the writers overall, as the Wednesday FJ! polled only 9%, with 63% saying they didn't even have a guess. The highest polled only 64%, and 12% were 0/5 that week. T...

Cheezguyty, you around? What's our lowest top-box poll in regular play?

I would be anything that "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl" is lowest in any game since the introduction of this forum.

Can we agree that the peacock clue was horribly misplaced, at least?

Is this the record for lowest percentage rate of any top-row clue in regular competition?
Lowest I remember is Me and Earl and the Dying Girl polling at 5% in 2018.

The McDonald's I work at is currently drive through-only, and busy as ever. Both churches that I play organ for have canceled until May, but I'm making most of that back with overtime.
