Re: Poll on Boardies Covid-19 Impact
Mask-wearing in ON, Canada, is more the norm than in the US, but we have our fair share of COVidiots here. It's highly dependent on where you live in the US. Here in Seattle, and I believe on the West Coast in general, mask usage is very high. You will not see people inside stores no complying. Eve...

So Andy gets a grand total of $2,999? That seems wrong somehow. IMHO, if someone wins a game with under $2k, they should bump it up to $3k, or at least $2,500. Theoretically, one could have a longer winning streak than Ken Jennings and walk away with all of $1,075 to show for it. Them's the rules!

Archive playthrough: Coryat $40,200 (50R, 2W) DD 3/3 FJ :( Four FJ misses in a row now. Passed right over figure skating in my thought process, thinking it was merely a descriptive name like "rhythmic gymnastics". Said bobsled just to have something. Afterr my 30 seconds were up, I pivoted to trying...

I don't know what your background is, but I am a Ph.D. chemist and talking about iron as an ore is what sounds ridiculous to me. Would be interested to see a poll question on this... You don't need a Ph.D. to recognize that when a clue explicitly asks for an ore and a contestant says "iron," their ...

Re: Tuesday, February 16, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
If a clue said "this Kennedy patriarch," "Who is Joseph?" would be unacceptable because Joseph without a last name is a Biblical figure. That's different because Joseph is a Kennedy. Iron is not an ore. Joseph is not a Kennedy; Joseph Kennedy is a Kennedy. See how ridiculous that sounds? I don't kn...

Sure, they did. But they don't get to reinvent how the English language works, nor do any of us.seaborgium wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 6:51 amJeopardy just did the latter, you're just not acknowledging it.
The writers are human. They word questions poorly sometimes. It happens.

Re: Tuesday, February 16, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
If you asked someone, "What ore is this?" and they answered, "Iron," would this be your response? That's basically the exchange between clue and contestant here (with more words involved and answer and question in the other order). Yes, because iron is not an ore. So you're not willing to assume th...

Re: Tuesday, February 16, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Honestly, I thought the date alone -- the Taj Mahal is from the mid 1600's -- should be enough to exclude it. To me, that's what made it plausible. I imagined a scenario where the Brits conquered that region, discovered the building, and tried to figure out what to name it. But then again, the Taj ...

I WAGged Everest with near-zero confidence Ditto, then, when Ken said the name "would be difficult to write or speak in local languages such as Hindi", I resigned myself to being wrong, thinking, "the people who live around Everest aren't really Hindi speakers, are they?" I don't know whether they ...

Archive playthrough: Coryat $42,800 (50R, 0W) DD 2/3 FJ :( NHO tres leches cake. Maybe could have guessed it if I thought about it more. At least going into the clue, I thought to myself "food and drink, $2000 row, bet small." As I mentioned above, got stuck in India on FJ. Three FJ misses in a row,...

Re: Tuesday, February 16, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Wrote Taj Mahal for FJ, knowing full well that would be too easy. Not a fan of that clue - the way it's written, it gets you searching your knowledge base of Indian landmarks and the whole time it's a red herring. Would have preferred if it at least said "South Asian landmark" or something to hint t...

Re: Monday, February 15, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Archive playthrough: Coryat $36,000 (43R, 3W) DD 2/3 FJ :( IMHO, toughest game in a while. I can see why the combined Coryat was on the low side. Lots of neg landmines to step on. Broke my streak of 9 games in a row over $40k. Couldn't come up with a Bill Withers song on the DD. Didn't know that Aug...

Re: 2021 Current Events Discussion Thread
Between the wreck last night and Dale Earnhardt's fatal accident on the last lap in 2001, I think for safety's sake they need to shorten it to the Daytona 498 from now on.
