Re: Wednesday, February 24, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS) by Archivists
I have a feeling that FJ clue was pretty easy for those of us in the over 50 demo. Avon was a bigger deal 40 years ago. Would younger people even know Avon exists? I'm 34 and I got it, but probably because I watched Edward Scissorhands and remember "Avon calling!" I have a feeling that FJ clue was ...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)
For 212 pages we've been beating the same dead horses: People who are good at Jeopardy often get clues right where they don't actually know the answer because they can follow hints/guideposts in the clue. Or they're familiar with the general answer range that Jeopardy asks about. Very rarely could t...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)
I still don't see why "first World's Fair" is "zomg super-easy baby's first trivia fact that literally everyone except the dumbass named TenPoundHammer knows" level though. Nobody said this. In fact, several people agreed that it's a bit harder than a top row clue usually is. But that doesn't mean ...

It seems disrespectful to speculate publicly. We have no idea and the obit doesn't say anything.

Opus I would never accuse you of being a scold. You're more of a crank. Wear that badge with pride. And font has been used in that way in word processors for decades, time to suck it up.

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)
The question in today's game about The Revenant couldn't be "literally any animal." The movie came out relatively recently. It won several awards; it's not obscure. Leo fighting a bear was a very notable thing about it. There were jokes about it. It was discussed extensively on TV and in print. It w...

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread
I've really enjoyed Ken's banter/teasing with the contestants. I think he's really good at relaxing them in a way that was tough with Alex.

I had no clue on FJ but my wife got it immediately which is just brutal. Demerits for me.

The Dr. Oz pushback is less because of "politics" but because he's known for hawking snake oil cures on his show. Miracle diet pills and whatnot.

It's unfortunate that a Jeopardy clue used a word that's widely seen these days as a slur.

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread
For a show that prides itself on being about knowledge, having a charlatan like Dr. Oz host is some dumb shit. I won't be watching that episode. This stunt casting is really disappointing. After correctly noting how Alex's presence and consistency were a huge part of what made the show good, they're...

Get this alternate channel nonsense out of here, it's screwing up my DVR recording!
This is not worth pre-empting for. They're walking papers from one room to another.

Quebec, New Jersey? C'mon man. Ok I had an advantage since I was born in NJ but it's not that obscure. Rutgers is in New Brunswick! This was my best game ever by Coryat. I will take no credit because we got such questions as "here's a picture of LeBron James, one of the most famous people on the pla...

Yep, I blame being sleep deprived from new parenthood. I know words good... Congrats! I welcomed grandchild #5 into the world this week. One of the (many) good things about grandparenthood is that you don't lose any sleep. Thanks! Kiddo is about to turn six months. Somehow I restrained myself from ...

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread
As long as the host doesn’t give their political views on the show I don’t care what they say or do in real life. Ideally, I agree with that. I just don't trust people who have conducted themselves in such a divisive manner. I can't look at an Anderson Cooper or a Katie Couric or a Sean Hannity (th...

You are probably right, and that is the reason I hate-hate-hate this kind of clue. I know anything (at least hypothetically) is fair game to be clue material, but.... "When was QEII's youngest child born?" Who was POTUS then? Really????? All one can do is take an educated guess, which is not the wa...

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread
I'm not really a fan of stunt casting Jeopardy hosts. And I like Aaron Rodgers, I'm sure he'll do a good job, but that's what this feels like.
Making a big deal out of "see who's hosting next week!" goes against the ethos of making the contestants the star of the show.

Re: Monday, January 11, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Pretty damn good for a host without the usual background for a job like this. A little fast, I guess, but I'd rather clear the boards than not.
