Re: LL83: Learned League

I knew that Brazil had to be one for the equator question and was able to narrow down the other option to Colombia or Bolivia, and went the wrong way. Despite Geography being one of my best categories I am really bad at questions where I have to map it out in my head and don't already know the answe...

Re: Besides Ken, Brad, and James, what other contestants could be considered GOAT?

In baseball it could end up being Ruth, Trout, and Bonds as the undisputed top 3 position players of all time...if you can overlook the chemical help that Bonds had.

Re: Besides Ken, Brad, and James, what other contestants could be considered GOAT?

I see nothing that should keep Alex Jacob out of the conversation, except maybe the fact that he doesn't hold any records (that I know of).

Re: LL83: Learned League

Got the win yesterday 8(5)-6(4) but my opponent did get the math question right, despite math being her second to worst category. I can't say the term "twin primes" sounded familiar at all to me. Very surprised Mersenne Primes wasn't the MCWA. I went with Mersenne, though I knew that it was wrong a...

Re: It's happening!!! The GOAT Tourney, w/ Brad + Ken + James

I feel like Alex Jacob is the one contestant who has a legitimate claim to having should have been invited (4-person games!) Larissa and Roger at least had their chances in the BotD tournament. Arthur Chu is the other post-BotD contestant who I would have liked to have seen against those three, but ...

Re: LL83: Learned League

I lucked into a 5(3)-4(3) win yesterday largely because I lucked out on there being a film question that I actually knew, but also because my opponent inexplicably gave me a 2 on Rijksmuseum when they also knew that one. About the only time that I ever look through an opponent's question history is ...

Re: Friday, November 15, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Congrats to James on the win! And to Emma and Francois for making the finals! It was a great game to close out the tournament.

I had Russia on the final and picked China over Japan for the second country.

Re: Thursday, November 14, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The word "jeremiad" doesn't as much as ring even a faint bell to me. I got as far as harangue...Herod? I knew it's not a Bible book but I had no other guess.

Re: LL83: Learned League

Yesterday's set struck me as easy. I was sure I would lose, but I had a nice surprise this morning when I discovered that 4 correct earned me a win. Whitney Houston was my first instinct, but then I stupidly switched to Bjork. I should have known that it made no sense for it to be a living singer. I...

Re: Wednesday, November 13, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I got FJ pretty quickly; just had to read the clue a few times to make sure that it was most likely referring to the barometer. Torricelli was a name that I learned in a middle school science class, and it always stuck. I can't recall him being one of those names that the show regularly has clues on...

Re: Friday, November 8, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I thought for sure that the Shakespeare category would have a DD. I can't say for sure if Ryan wanted to uncover the DD early or build up money, but hunting in a category called "Miscellany" is not the way to find it. Instant get FJ. It reminded me of the one from the second round of the UToC where ...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

My 1DS proposal on The Wonder Years was accepted and will be run on April 9! It's hard to believe that all three of the 1DS that I have done have been pop culture themed.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I end the season with a 6(4)-2(2) win and will be staying in C next season! I really thought that my answer of "doldrums" might be acceptable for trade winds. Oh well. Chicago was a total guess on my part. I didn't think that the answer was a proper noun, but I couldn't come up with anything that ma...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I got a 6(4)-1(2) win to bring myself out of the relegation zone going into the last day! For the explorers question I had Cortez, Pisarro, Balboa, Velazquez, and Ponce de Leon under consideration, but I ultimately went with Pisarro. Considering how we have a Ponce Avenue and a Ponce City Market her...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I went the wrong way between Road Rules and Real World, but still won 5(3)-3(2). I am still in the relegation zone to go back to D, but I am tied in points with the lowest ranking person in my rundle who is above it. The last two MDs will be agonizing!

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I suffered my first 0(0) since LL79. PKU was the only one where I had a chance. I thought that I had seen the term on Coke Zero cans and tried to recall it, but was off with PKI. I had no chance on any of the others.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

The Bechdel test sounds vaguely familiar. I am not the best person to judge its difficulty since that is a weak area of mine, but I am still shocked that it played easier than Rocky. I really thought that Rocky would have around an 80% get rate. Heck, there was a question on antagonists from the Roc...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I couldn't think of a single sport that had 3 words in its name. My dad used to watch Northern Exposure, but I couldn't have named a character other than Maurice Minnifield. I got the rest though and won my match, and got lucky with a 3 for funkadelic, which to me was an easy 0 to give my opponent.
