Re: Friday, June 13, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I instagot Iran for FJ then nearly as instantly thought oops... it could be Taiwan ROC too. Then I was really glad I wasn't there. But the contestants nonplussed me by not giving either plausible answer. What is Trebek's Guinness record? It seems to me that Bob Barker should be the record holder. Or...

Re: Wednesday, June 11, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'm sorry to see Molly go, but I'm happy it was the cop who beat her. There was too much to dislike about that nasal-twanged New Yorker. I was plain amazed that FJ was a TS, since I got it instantly and precalled that all three would get it; meaning that the cop would win. It was only the last of to...

Re: Tuesday, June 10, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I know the Arizona - New Mexico - 1912 stuff from The Simpsons! ---------------------- Homer: "Now we all know the 13 stripes are for good luck. But why does the American flag have precisely 47 stars?" Apu: "Because this particular flag is ridiculously out of date. The library must have purchased i...

Re: Monday, June 9, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Congratulations to Molly the Good, but her win today was underwhelming. She was able to climb back to a near lock after stumbling badly in (single) Jeopardy! I knew she would win after I saw how aggressively the lawyer bet on the wrong answer. For FJ, I immediately came up with Israel (or as the Fre...

Re: Friday, June 6, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Go Molly the Good! That male contestant had what it took on the buzzer but seemed as likely to ring in with a wrong answer as a correct one. FJ was a sort of instaget for me; I recognized Curtiss as an aviator but vacillated between pilot license and aircraft registration and realized the letters FA...

Re: Thursday, June 5, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

What a lovely and appealing contestant Molly is! I'd be happy if she breaks Jennings's streak. The last champ I was this excited about was Julia Collins. Holy man, what an awful set of deliveries by AT in the Hamlet category. Then there was something after that where he did something awful with his ...

Re: Wednesday, June 4, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Sara played very aggressively. I think she is the better player and the Irish champ from Monday was just a weak player.

For most, I think FJ was either an instaget or a stumper. Thinking too hard is the enemy there.

Re: Monday, June 2, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I wasn't sure what to make of the new champion at the start, but I was ready to write him off when he bungled Martin Luther by 1500 years. WTH? And there was even an illustration. I precalled that Jackhammer Julia would bet 1200 on the DD, so when she bet 3200, I noted as I did on Friday that she wa...

cosmos wrote:Sami looked like a giant killer for the first few minutes but it turned out he did so well with Rodin because he had been to the museum.
He had been to the Rodin Museum in Paris; the video we saw was Alex at the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia.

Re: Friday, May 30, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Jackhammer Julia does it again! I was surprised by the size of her DD wager in DJ. Usually she is more conservative. Alex noted that Sami might have been writing down the correct answer, but TE is also the start of Texas, another southern state. I know Julia majored in art history, but I was surpris...

Re: Thursday, May 29, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Jackhammer Julia looked absolutely fetching in that blue top. Mee-yow! That was a stupid move by Matt guessing Elizabeth I when the third contestant had already been negged on Elizabeth. Obviously if Elizabeth I was the correct answer and Elizabeth was inadequate, she would have been BMSed. I though...

Re: Another example of beginner's slack

I suspected Rockies for the last baseball team, but I understand why no one risked $2000 to grab at something so facetious. I don't think you mean facetious. Fugacious is probably much closer to the mark. No, dearie. Facetious: treating serious issues with deliberately inappropriate humor; flippant...

Re: Wednesday, May 28, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

More cheers for Jackhammer Julia! I was surprised at the number of TS no one grabbed at, because I thought most of them were easy. I enjoy being a Japethite! I suspected Rockies for the last baseball team, but I understand why no one risked $2000 to grab at something so facetious. I instaguessed FJ ...

Re: Tuesday, May 27, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Incidentally, am I correct in thinking that answers not phrased as a question are accepted in round 1 but not in DJ, or did I just dream that? In (single) Jeopardy!, Alex prompts for phrasing; but not in Double Jeopardy. Nowadays contestants are prompted to write "Who Is" or "What Is" on their FJ m...

Re: Tuesday, May 27, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Jackhammer Julia pounds on!

But there were many TS, including some I found easy, especially Sadat-Begin.

I came up with Hajj but wonder if they would have accepted "religious pilgrimage"? And I think after it was over, Alex should have told Dylan he forgot to phrase in the form of a question.

Three cheers for Jackhammer Julia!

I said The Karate Kid for FJ, which at least got the year correct.

That Maui category was RIDICULOUSLY easy! King Kamehameha was the $2000 clue?

Re: Random Questions

I seem to remember that many years ago there was a player (teen tournament?) who just absolutely pxxxed ice cubes. He always had a nasty-looking scowl on his face. He was a chore to watch. I can imagine J! wanting to take action to hasten his departure if he fell upon a winning streak under the no-l...

Re: Friday, May 23, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Great game. If more of Julia's games had this dynamic, there would be less grousing about her play on this forum. I didn't see the first part of her run, but I'm liking her more and more. GO BIG J!

Re: Thursday, May 22, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Do you suppose they would have accepted my answer of Catalina for a salad dressing invented near Santa Barbara? Very unlikely. The second part of the clue was a clear indicator toward "Hidden". Besides, the category was "Brands", and I don't think Catalina is a brand. I disagree. It's a brand of sa...

Re: Thursday, May 22, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Brands for $400 and $600 seemed like total coin tosses on Bud/Miller and Colgate/Crest. Miller Lite is spelled L-I-T-E. Bud Light is spelled as the word that was in quotes in the clue. And if you know that Scope and Crest are both Procter & Gamble products, the second one is no trouble at all.
