Re: GOAT Tournament Day 3 (1/9/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

And DAYUM, Ken! Nicely done! Not looking good for James...sigh. I don't think he's going to win the tournament; I see his legacy getting tarnished. James’ legacy on Jeopardy is etched in stone. Just look at the list of top single game wins in the show’s history plus how he handled the TOC, finishin...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 3 (1/9/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

And DAYUM, Ken! Nicely done! Not looking good for James...sigh. I don't think he's going to win the tournament; I see his legacy getting tarnished. He may not win, but James has had a run of bad luck. The only one whose legacy might be getting tarnished is Brad, and that could be due to playing aga...

Re: ABC Plays Keepaway

The idea of letting millionaires play Who Wants to Be a Millionaire doesn't sit right with me. Like, if there should be one precondition for being a contestant, it should be not already being a millionaire . Perhaps “What Charity Wants a Million Dollars?” didn’t resonate with the producers as a pot...

Re: ABC Plays Keepaway

I assume the "keepaway" comment has to do with the fact that ABC has to produce (or air?) an episode of Millionaire to retain the rights, correct? I'm not a big fan of celebrity editions of game shows, but that's the way ABC has gone. They seem to think that B-level celebs are required for people t...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 2 (1/8/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I am hoping against hope that Brad gets it together and wins Game 3.

James is so great at FJ that part of me is expecting him to LOSE to Ken in the decisive match on a FJ miss.

Re: Wednesday, January 8, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Gosh, he deserved to lose after that insane DD wager in the J! round. I get there is a reason why that category was left for last and that you may not think the returning champ is scary given her one win, but come on. The DJ round was one of the most painful in recent memory. As I fall asleep tonigh...

Re: Tuesday, January 7, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Tough game for Karen but she pulled it together at the end to give herself a chance at FJ. Given that she was the only one to get the sports question right during DJ, there was hope when the FJ category was revealed that maybe she could pull off the miracle. At the very least, her eight games should...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 1 (1/7/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Great first matchup. James with a 60,000 two-game total without hitting a DD is quite impressive. Ken hitting that DD in Game 1 was obviously huge. I believe Ken has always been good at the “souped up” versions of regular game categories (ie, Before During & After and Triple Rhyme Time) In Game 2, K...

Re: Monday, January 6, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Karen is a fun champion because she is just super steady. It was shocking to see her ring and miss multiple times tonight. Her challengers just can’t get into any kind of consistent groove to put any real pressure on her. You can pretty much write her down to have $18-22K or so heading into FJ and i...

Re: Friday, January 3, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Well, some of the replies are a little more on the nose. That's where you find her "Well, we're both female" quip in reply to someone who compared them. I get being annoyed by comparisons. Jennifer certainly had more money after 5, 6, and 7 wins. But the quip was still off-putting, and they were di...

Re: Friday, January 3, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was a big fan of Jennifer Quail during her run, but I had the misfortune to check out her Twitter account today. Lots of snark toward the show and the contestants, and seems to have little respect for Karen or her game. After scrolling through Jennifer's tweets, I now really hope Karen passes her...

Re: J! in the Media

The documentary is good. Not a lot of new information, but Alex, his wife, and the show crew all come off very well. The surprise of it all for me was the inclusion of Greg Hopkins, the champ from the first episode. He talked about how the $8,400 he won made a difference in his life (with no mentio...

Re: Thursday, January 2, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Karen’s steady play is really paying off for her. She didn’t get anything wrong today.

It looked like this could be a three person bloodbath at the first break but Kevin fizzled out. Brit played well but Karen pulled away late and made it all irrelevant with a sole get.

Re: Thursday, January 2, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Brit was in the hunt, I wonder if she would have been bold on a DD? I have it on very good authority that the answer is...it depends. My thought going in was, if I felt by any means good about the category, go bold. Thus, I would've gone big on "Places," more conservative on "Creatures," and modera...

Re: Wednesday, January 1, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Mo'Nique - I have heard of her but would have never been able to get this. The FJ was hit by two of the three contestants so it is knowledge that is far from obscure. The contestants were using a middle-of-the-board strategy, leaving the top rows for the end of the round. I like this as a general st...

Re: Wednesday, December 18, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I only was able to record DJ because I didn’t hear about the LiveWell channel change until 7:12. From what I saw, weird DD wagers and an overall sloppy DJ round which lead to a low winning score due to a solve FJ solve. I commented to my wife that I wouldn’t have been disappointed if ABC NY decided ...

Re: Monday, December 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Never knew my love for The Twilight Zone would become somewhat useful in FJ. Jennifer was fun to watch but, as most likely expected, she was done in by the other two contestants finding the DDs. Regardless, Alex jinxed her with the Top Ten talk. She still is in the upper tier of contestants and the ...

Re: Thursday, December 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I just don’t get it. 6-day champion who has won a bundle of money. You would think that the odds that you will get FJ while the champion misses FJ are rather small. Betting a combined $4K on two DDs in DJ essentially is conceding the game. While I think that Jennifer can be better with pop culture t...

Re: Wednesday, December 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Once again, Jennifer hits a few categories where her knowledge is obviously vast and the game goes from a tossup to a blowout in about 2 minutes or so. Yesterday was especially striking because it really did come out of nowhere. Will someone eventually find a DD, bet large, get it, and dethrone her?...

Re: Tuesday, December 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Jennifer is giving me some Julia vibes - plays the game pretty much the old-fashioned way, does nothing flashy, but before you know it, she is sitting with over $20K and crushing the competition. She probably needs to brush up a little on pop culture when the next TOC comes along and well... we all ...
