Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?

What have we learned? We have learned that he has taken all the fun out of Jeopardy!: https://buffalonews.com/2019/04/27/jeff-simon-james-holzhauer-the-contestant-who-took-the-fun-out-of-jeopardy/ Of all the pearl-clutching and hang-wringing about King James Holzhauer, this is by far the funniest an...

Re: Friday, April 26, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Thanks for the info Mark. Yeah, if I was ever going to be on the show I would definitely hit the archive, and I suspect I would come across Cooper and make some of the connections, but I was utterly lost today as it was. I have heard of (and seen the film of) The Last of the Mohicans and knew the fi...

Re: Friday, April 26, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

another thing, was Alex out of line with his "you better not miss this one, James" for the Las Vegas clue?

I'm not saying that James wouldn't have got the correct response otherwise, but it still feels below board.

Re: Friday, April 26, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'm tipping my hat to James, I never heard of The Deerslayer, the Leatherstocking Tales, or James Fenimore Cooper, and I thought that 19th Century Novels would be a good category for me. I thought that this was some kind of mind-blowingly deep get, and a good demonstration of the fact that even thou...

Re: Monday, April 15, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The real question:

What 12 cities will James visit?

What 12 cities would you visit?

Re: Thursday, April 25, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I think my taste in movies is a little different than the clue writers... instagot Pulp Fiction . I ran the category as it happens, but found that to be far the easiest clue, surprised James missed it...btw was that the first time someone rebounded on him? Pulp Fiction is the bane of professional g...

I hate to criticize someone's opinion, but I can't see how this isn't enjoyable to watch. Watching a master at work is always a pleasure.

Re: Tuesday, April 23, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

About the only thing wrong with this game is that King James Holzhauer missed the King James clue.

Then again Kareem Abdul-Jabbar missed the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar clue so maybe that's a trend.

Re: Friday, April 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

English monarchs are something you need to know if you get the call. Something one of my favourite players Larissa knows all too well  Plus he occasionally had some competition. IIRC Ken could have lost his fifth game if his opponent had answered FJ correctly, in which case he would be conside...

Re: Wednesday, April 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Just out of curiosity - why? Personally, I LOVE watching greatness. Well, I am kind of on your page, I like the big tournaments and would love if they were every three years (every year might be a bit much), but I can see being annoyed by a lot of the newer champions. In the old days, even the best...

Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?

It's quite possible that June 13 has some significance to him and that $60,013 represents it close enough that it was worth the value of the extra $300 wager (less than $100 after taxes assuming a 75% get probability) to him. But harder to explain Tuesday's exact $40,000 wager ($3,780 short of the ...

Re: Tuesday, April 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Where are you getting the source of this? That seems incredibly low, unless we have differing definitions of "leaving money on the table"? FWIW I am defining money left on the table as, in a lock-game situation: {[Ken's DJ score] - 2*[runner-ups DJ score] - 1} - [Ken's wager] Literally the stats I ...

Re: Tuesday, April 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

However, he left a lot of money on the table over the years, I suspect probably over a million dollars. Ken left $119,978 on the table over 74 games. (An average of $1,621 a show.) Where are you getting the source of this? That seems incredibly low, unless we have differing definitions of "leaving ...

Re: Tuesday, April 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

James now has the Top 3 highest one-day scores all for himself. Nice. Interesting point. Ken once had the Top 5* so I guess that's another record James could topple. *But not "all for himself." He had the top two all for himself, and shared the third (= fourth = fifth = sixth) place spot with Brian...
