Re: Random Questions

1. If KJ were still the champ, would the powers eventually invite three new players because viewers would be bored of only Ken ever winning? You mean if he were still the champ ten years later? It's a difficult hypothetical to fathom. More interesting is, what if a new contestant passed KJ's record...

Yes.

Re: What is your favorite part of Jeopardy!?

It HAS to be the special tournaments because that is the main thing that sets Jeopardy apart from every other game show in history of TV. It speaks to not only the loyalty of the fans but also the contestants. It really says something that Jeopardy can still get former contestants from 30 years ago...

Re: What is your favorite part of Jeopardy!?

I like the Tournaments because I like the format, I think it's neat that Alex invented that. Huh? I'm sure they had ToCs in the Fleming era, where did you hear that? My apologies. I meant the current 15-player 2-week format with the quarterfinals and the wild cards. As I understand it, in the Flemi...

Re: Thursday, May 22, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

My simple exercise for determining the lower bound of the role of luck in Ken's streak is to reshuffle the Final Jeopardies in his games. Assuming Ken's answers to the same FJ clues would be the same if the clue was merely in a different game, and assuming his opponents would have the same get rate...

Re: Contestant Tom Carroll

Y'know what would've been cool? If whoever won on the last day of the Fleming era got invited back for day one of Trebek's era. I like to imagine that the last person to win on Trebek's version will be on the first day of New Host's version. Otherwise it might not be wise to audition once it's clea...

Re: Thursday, May 22, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Does anybody seriously contend that Julia's opponents are any more bad at Jeopardy! than any other set of J! opponents? I just don't think that's qualitatively true; the majority of contestants are somewhat hapless. Is the implication that Arthur somehow "earned" his less able opponents because he ...

Re: What is your favorite part of Jeopardy!?

Regular play, but only just. I like the Tournaments because I like the format, I think it's neat that Alex invented that. And I was tempted to say the greatest of all time tournaments, especially in light of the excitement we have been privy to lately, but it occurs to me that having those more than...

Instaget FJ, so that's fun.

I really felt bad for the girl in the middle. I can easily imagine myself being that nervous (although I do sometimes give myself too little credit, maybe I'd be fine).

Re: Wednesday, May 21, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

What is with these contenders they are putting up against Julia? Sirena today and that dude yesterday just guessing away any chance they had. $200 on a daily double, WTF?! Dude yesterday doing the math wrong on his bet. COME ON MAN. It's so frustrating to watch this barely >20,000/day champ go 10 g...

Re: Wednesday, May 21, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

On a less negative note, I was surprised I missed FJ. I am a huge Stephen King fan (I could tell you all about the books that take place in Castle Rock, Maine, for instance, and I remember one time there was a Stephen King category, and I thought to myself at the time that if I ever got on the show...

Re: Wednesday, May 21, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

This is getting ridiculous. I think I might stop watching the show until she loses. She's clearly much, much smarter than she lets on (even I can't deny a 9-game streak, much less 13), but these monochrome sweaters, awkward faux-laughing noises, and demeanor which makes her come across as an unintel...

Wow, Arthur Chu himself personally responded to a post I made on this board Lucky you. In fact, why don't I join that club? Arthur, please reply to this post. Re: Tuesday, May 20, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

At some point Julia's detractors are going to have to give up the ghost, right? *Sigh* I suppose we (or I at any rate) will. At this point it can't just be the astonishing coincidence I kept think it was; after 11 games the odds of that would be almost zero. Does this imply she wins again tonight?
