Re: Wednesday, January 13, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Another FJ where it helped to be "of a certain age" for this to be an instaget. It was a book that engendered strong opinions - people either loved it or hated it - but it was pretty much ubiquitous on high school and college campuses. Funny, I had always thought of Watership Down as popular for mo...

Re: Tuesday, January 12, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

On this FJ I precalled Bupkus (I know, wrong religion) and had zero preconception about what it might be about. I just figured I'll be OK since I know lots of hymns. Well, I don't recall ever having heard that story, and failing that, also had zero idea what this might be. WAGged Faith of our Fathe...

Some weird answers - name a small colonial power that fought with France - Iceland, huh? Filing it under 'Lights/Stage' folder. My recollection is that the clue even spotted them "located on the North Sea." Maybe Adam was confused because Capt. von Trapp in the Sound of Music was in the Navy but yo...

When he paused before responding, I had a feeling he was going to say Auburn. Same here, but I didn't really think it was possible for an adult from a southern state to have not heard Alabama and Crimson Tide so often over the years that it would be automatic, even for someone who doesn't follow sp...

Re: Wednesday, December 9, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Never heard of a King Charles Spaniel, so I went with Scottish Terrier, which I could argue does fit the clue. It doesn't. Name a "member of the House of Stuart" called "Scottish Terrier"? Instaget FJ for me, even before Alex finished reading the question. The Stuarts were Scots. Doesn't say it has...

Re: Wednesday, November 18, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

That could have been an interesting game if Matt hadn't found the daily double and then made a very hubristic bet, or if he'd lost that bet. What was with that hand gesture on Cabaret ? A shoutout to his friends in musical theater? Jazz hands in tribute to Bob Fosse. Not to mention that it was a ge...

Not to mention that it was grammatically ambiguous.

Re: Thursday, November 5, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I live in SoCal and "June Gloom" is frequently used but I've never heard an utterance of "May Gray". FJ super easy but like someone else said, I think it's ok to vary the FJ difficulty level. SoCal native here; I've also never heard anyone say "May Gray." And I don't know if I've ever even noticed ...

Re: Tuesday, October 27, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Let me simplify that Final Jeopardy question for you: name one person who signed the Declaration of Independence. I would have gotten it right if that's how they worded it. Instead, I'll admit that this was one of those embarrassingly easy FJs where it was a little too tempting to over-think it, co...

Re: Wednesday, September 30, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

In "two missing letters", I was hoping someone would answer "What is (a) ho?" I came SO CLOSE to answering "What is an ass" for the animal Jesus rode in on, but thought better of it. It's certainly the word I remember from many a Easter week service. A bad word right there in the Bible and said alo...

Re: Wednesday, September 30, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Devilish FJ. It took knowing the country of origin of all 8 Secretaries-General - a pretty esoteric bit of knowledge. Then, trying to figure out which countries had 55 million people; assuming you knew the 8 countries, it's pretty easy to eliminate the European ones ("Iceland??"), but a toss up betw...

This is one of the times I wish ties hadn't been abolished. I could watch Matt and Vicki battle it out all week. ... Matt's shouting was measurably less today than Friday. Perhaps they reminded him he has a microphone. Cutting Alex off annoys me, but clearing all the boards two days in a row makes ...

That's accurate for me. French and with "superb dinners" somehow connected with "Cordon Bleu." So, something more than a completely WAG, but not quite an educated guess.

That was a triple stumper?? Is 1999 ancient history? And that seemed pretty lenient on the Wolf Hall response; it's not like there was only one famous Cromwell. There was only one that Mark Rylance portrayed in Wolf Hall and they weren't close to contemporaries. Well, in the same way that they prob...
