Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020
My coin toss / change my first guess losing streak continues. I started with Sidney Opera House, but Sidney Harbor and knowledge waters bothered me. 1973 sounded perfect for World Trade Center (and it was, having opened in 1973), and a little old for the Opera House. The Gateway Arch wasn't a bad g...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020
I've heard of the Barefoot Contessa, but never knew anything about it. When I saw the name Ina Garten, all I could think of was "Ina Garten of Eden...don't you know that I'm lovin' you" from there I just went with East of Eden knowing the movie was at the right timeframe. I never heard of the movie ...

Re: Form of a Question Question
I know you were looking for current stuff, and received that answer already, but wanted to mention that IIRC, I saw it in the early days (probably pre 1990) on a DD where someone gave "is it x", and Alex said something like, "well that is in the form of a question, so that's an acceptable response."

What phrase is most commonly used in economics and finance for the purchase of the equity of a given firm using funds acquired in large part via borrowing? (Either the phrase or its standard three-letter abbreviation is acceptable.) I thought "sounds like leveraging" and have heard of a leveraged bu...

yeah, that was a facepalm after I saw the answer, so obvious...love those questions.ouachiouat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 7:40 amI LOVED Q4 yesterday. At first glance I was thinking "How the stink am I supposed to know Malaysia's gas company's name? Why is that even on here?" And then it clicked. Questions like that are why I love LL.

Stupid Bronte 50/50/90... my coin landed on its side, so I only put the last name and got credit. I considered putting a first name, as that would be the norm in this situation, but because there is no way to be asked BMS in this game, and because it didn't say "first and last name required" as has...

"5a.2 For questions which require the name of a person (or entity) for an answer (such a question might be indicated by a "who" or explicit asking for a name), the last name (family name) is required, and only the last name is required, unless otherwise specified ." (emphasis mine) There you go. su...

Too many adults on this board! Roughly equivalent to "congressional districts" in the United States, what is the standard term used in the United Kingdom for the 650 electoral areas through which members of the House of Commons (MPs) are elected? What made 9% come up with "riding"; would like to know what I'm not seeing with that...

This is one I probably get in LL with all day to think. I know someone who used to live in Uganda and posted a picture of herself posing at the equator marker. They post one of those bogus "Oh-look-the-water-goes-a-different-direction-on-each-side" photos? That’s unpossible, we all know the world i...

Fired up DVD of Gods and Generals, find there's an introduction by Ted Turner. Realized only a few seconds in that I have literally never heard Ted Turner's voice before in my life. Re: Hosting Question
If even a temporary hosting gig would disqualify someone from competing in future supertourneys (by virtue of having been employed by the show), I would think that would be a huge disincentive to James in particular, and maybe some others. And TPTB may not WANT people like James (and Brad) to be re...

Re: What ought to happen next?
A normal season consists of 230 episodes. The rest of the Alex episodes gets us up to 75 shows in S37. Factoring in the two weeks from the vault, that leaves 145 episodes in the rest of the season. So I wonder if the entire rest of the season will be guest hosts and the permanent one will begin nex...

I don’t even know what a full credit roll is or the interest in tracking down games that had them. There seem to be a number of credit rolls videos on YouTube, not sure why. (Hey, I have a bunch of old unarchived games, I bet people would love to see who the key grip was in 1987). Hey, they have fa...
