Re: TD 267: Once Around the Monopoly Board [Final Standings Posted!]

Thanks for a complex, well-scripted game, Blue! I would encourage your idea of re-visiting the theme. There's certainly a lot of material left on the deeds, but it occurs to me you could mine either the different tokens or the Chance and/or Community Chest classic cards as jumping-off points as well...

Re: Thursday, November 19, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Was anyone else miffed that they counted Matt's response of "itinerant" for the "vagrant" clue incorrect? I don't remember the exact wording of the clue, but it seems like it should've been accepted. i·tin·er·ant noun 1. a person who travels from place to place. Yes. I think it met the clue in all ...

Re: Thursday, November 19, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

What can be said? I'm speechless, but looking forward to what y'all have to say. Ok, I'll say one thing; game theory rules. Instaget FJ. Also thought of MITIM but the Count was in prison longer (and wasn't masked), so went with that. I do think either could have been a quote in the Dumas original.

Re: Wednesday, November 18, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

That could have been an interesting game if Matt hadn't found the daily double and then made a very hubristic bet, or if he'd lost that bet. . Probably reading too much into someone I don't know, but I think there was a larger dynamic going that would negate the "hubristic" aspect. 1. Game theory w...

Re: Tuesday, November 17, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Thanks, boardies. You've always treated me kindly--even tonight, when I got my clock cleaned by a much better player. I played that game just about as well as I'm able to play Jeopardy! I don't think I lost because I did something really stupid, or even something too timid. I think when you get rig...

Re: Tuesday, November 17, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Wow. OMG, even. lol... I think Alex has spent his time off very productively. He was dominating before, while winning his spot in the TOC. This was well beyond that, IMO, given the quality of his opponents; just a jaw-dropping performance. It also seems to me he's hyper-focused on what he's doing; n...

I really appreciated the drop option when it came to Taylor Swift. No disrespect intended; I have a hole in my head where song titles and artists are supposed to be stored.

Re: 2015 TOC Pre-Taping Stats, Predictions & Comments

I'm on the Alex Jacobs train against the field, myself. He's not a lock, but he's by far the most experienced at high-pressure high-profile situations.

Re: Wednesday, October 14, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Matt was robbed! The French for "the" isn't "ua" or "ue", it's "la" and "le". The clue was French term meaning 'with the' and the category was two letter words beginning with "A". What TPTB were reaching for is that the phrase "à le" (as opposed to "à la") contracts to "au". And any robbery was don...

Re: TD 265: シンクヂッファレントアタック25 (Think Different Attack 25)

It was in an easy-to-miss part that I slipped in the same post as the questions: それでわ、問題です。最低のスコアを目指して頑張ってください。ボナス問題にペナルテありません。どうぞ。 Sorede wa, mondai desu. Saitei no sukoa o mezashite ganbatte kudasai. Bonasu mondai ni penaruti arimasen. dozo. Now then, here are the questions. Try to achieve the lo...

I'm trying to decide whether to guess on bonus answers. You make a blanket statement about incorrect answers costing a lot, but perhaps "bonus" itself implies no penalty for wrong answers. Would you please clarify? Thank you!

(What I don't recall from that particular match is whether the result is different if they accept his answer. Maybe it didn't matter except to him?) He was going to lose either way. Thanks! I had gotten myself a little righteously mad on his behalf writing that. If it didn't matter to the result, t...

Re: Monday, October 12, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Damn near Kid's Week FJ. You really think so? I wouldn't think the Bayeux Tapestry is quite that well known. I'm going to guess this one will poll in the 2/3 range in the weekly poll. I was sort of surprised it was a triple get. I had never heard of it. +1 WHAT>>>> they don't dismiss misspelling an...

Re: For the LLamas Among Us

I moved this post from the LL66 discussion, as it seemed more appropriate in this thread: This looks like a lot of fun! I realize I just joined this board, but if someone here is looking to sponsor a new member into LL who's reasonably intelligent, loves games, and maintains the highest integrity wh...

Re: Thursday, October 8, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

There was something funny about Matt's serious expression after the Mr. Peabody & Sherman clues, almost like he was thinking "I don't have time for you, cartoon dog." OTOH, he did keep going back to the category. Which surprised me given his two-minute-offense strategy, because those clues took an ...

Re: Introduce Yourself Here

It's Alex Jacobs' fault I found this board, btw, and I'm really excited to see how the TOC goes for him next month. I hope you folks found him a fresh and funny champion, as I did, but I suspect there is a thread or two about his run, so I'll go see for myself. How is it Alex's fault? Does he owe y...

Re: Introduce Yourself Here

Hi, folks! My name is Barbara, I'm 56, and living in Florida for a while now. Was a Game Show junkie from childhood and loved Art Fleming's Jeopardy! in the 60's, along with Bill Cullen on Eye Guess (I even had the board game) and Hugh Downs on Concentration . My only tv show experience was in high ...
