Re: Wednesday, April 25, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I did ultimately get FJ! right, but for most of the think time I was wavering between British Colombia and the Yukon. Looking at a map now, I can't even tell if the Yukon touches the Pacific (maybe slightly?).

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

The clue: "This work was over 50 years old & excerpts had been popularized when it had its first full U.S. performance on Christmas Eve 1944 " How I interpreted it: "Blah blah blah something in Russia that happened sometime around the end of the 19th century. Could be a book, could be music, could ...

Re: Friday, April 13, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

This can be a tricky clue, since there's no real way of getting through all fifty states in thirty seconds. If you hit Maryland early, it's certainly gettable, but if you start in the west, like I did, there's no way you're getting to Maryland in time. Ultimately went with Montana. I blame Disney.

No guess on FJ!
Is there a reason you don't like to guess? At least in Final Jeopardy!, guessing can't hurt, and this clue was a very gettable one just from guessing a museum in France.

For "burning the candle at both ends," I said "burning the midnight oil." Does anyone recall the wording on that clue? It seemed possible that could've been accepted, depending on the wording.

Instead of west or east, I went south to Libya. Doesn't sound like many people got the wrong answer in that direction.

I'm from New Orleans.

The wording/description of the first question was sort of okay. However, I'm not sure what was in that bowl, but whatever it was , it was NOT gumbo.
I was coming here to make this exact same comment . Seconding this, that wasn't no gumbo.

Re: Thursday, March 1, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

It seems to go against the Jeopardy! way for there to be no penalty for getting the tiebreaker wrong.

Re: Thursday, March 1, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

The scores after DJ! did not seem conducive to a tie. Thought for sure the first tie would come from more tie-friendly scores. Can someone explain the rationale behind $4801, because I'm not getting it. It seems pretty random, as far as I can tell.

Re: Monday, January 29, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Learned a couple of things today that I didn't know that I didn't know. First, that the Texas school book depository's name actually was Texas School Book Depository. I always just thought it was a description of the building, not the actual name of the place. Or used to be the name, anyway. It just...

Speaking of FJ!, it's interesting that the writers framed the clue as if the logo in question no longer contains a checkered flag and a fleur-de-lis. It does.
Yeah, I was thinking "wait, they changed the logo?" Guess not :D.

I thought it was 16 men. I've always heard (or misheard, I suppose) 16 men. Just learned today that it's 15 and not 16.

I'm not an opera buff myself, but I'm familiar enough with Figaro's famous song with his repeated name that I figured it was a reasonable guess at least. And the right one! Always worth guessing something :).

Re: Friday, December 29, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Is it? After it was revealed that Sgt. Pepper's would not suffice, are we sure they would take LDS or the Mormons? I'm not. "Mormons," by itself, absolutely fits this clue, though. I can't see a case for them not to accept that answer. Probably the acronym too, though I'll admit I'm not as positive...

Four rows of three? That's gotta' be the Zodiac, right? Whoops, no, guess it isn't . It wasn't until after the tuxedo clue that I realized the category was "inn" and not just "in." Almost surprised no one went for the penguin suit negbait. I did . It looked like someone forgot for a spli...

Re: Tuesday, December 19, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I thought "Stars and Stripes" was used often enough that I'd have accepted it, but I can see that going either way, really. "Scrooge" should definitely not have been accepted, but I also didn't hear that she pronounced it that way. The difference between Scrooge and Scrooged is easy to miss if you'r...

I felt the clue would've been better without "animated." I probably could've still gotten it right, but as it is, the clue felt a little bit too easy. WECIB like everyone else said.

I immediately realized the character FJ! was referring to... then spent the next thirty seconds trying, and failing to remember the actress' name :P. How is a tie broken for who goes first in Double Jeopardy! when there's a tie? Unless I'm misremembering, which is possible, the other contestant shou...

Re: Friday, December 1, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Oh, it's the colossal part that was named for Nero. Not the Flavian part. Guess they had a sense of humor back then. Not knowing the Colosseum's other name would've made the clue easier. Might've still gotten it wrong, I don't know, but at least I'd have been looking in the right direction for the a...
