Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Eastern), April 9, 2019
Took tonight's test off of Sue Herder's recording (Thanks, Sue!). Will probably take tomorrow's to continue my now 34-year attempt to get on the show (Yes, I first took the test back in 1985. Feels like yesterday.) In any event, I scored 47 last night which is better than my typical 41-45 on the tes...

Re: Alex Trebek Announces Diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer
What a week! It was bad enough that Alex had to make this horrible announcement. Then the very next day, this life-long Met fan learned that Tom Seaver (the greatest Met of them all) is suffering from dementia, and has to retire from public life. May God strengthen them both for the upcoming trials...

Sounds like a good interim choice. After all, he already has one game of experience!

Re: Tuesday, March 5, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
If for some reason he can't keep working that long, I would think they'd just cut the season a little short (if they don't have any contract requirement to produce a full 46 weeks a year of new programming). That way, they can take some extra time in finding a replacement. I just looked at one of t...

Instaget FJ, those are three high profile amendments. I wasn’t a fan of the format, but I don’t fault them for trying. With today’s news, this could be Alex’s last mega-TOC, but hopefully he will be able to host another before he retires on his own terms. I would love to see him end his career with...

This totally sucks.
My father was diagnosed, also at age 78, with stage 2 pancreatic cancer a few years ago. He survived just a year, though he was able to function well until his last few months.

Ken can do no wrong! (except mispronounce Titian) I had to look this up since I've never heard it the way Ken pronounced it. His real first name was Tiziano, pronounced Tit-zha-no, so you could make an argument for Ken's pronunciation. Ken really came in like a wrecking ball again. What a player. D...

Re: Wednesday, February 27, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
At the beginning of this tournament, I claimed that FJ! wagering in the 2nd game of the first round of matches was the most complicated we've seen on the show. However, both games had scores going into that FJ! that made the wagering very simple. There were only a few minor decisions to make: Team K...

Re: Friday, February 22, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Despite my post a few days ago saying that 2nd game wagering in this round is the most complicated we've seen on the show, the wagering strategies today ended up being very straightforward. From the brief glimpse into the strategy discussions, it was also clear that the teams understood this. Since ...

Re: Thursday, February 21, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
One of the few useful facts I picked up studying for J! was that the westernmost point in Africa was Cape Verde in Senegal. Paid off when they asked for the recently-independent nation off the westernmost point in Africa. So Senegal was easy, and figuring out Somalia on the Horn of Africa didn't ta...

Re: Wednesday, February 20, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
So does the "two-day affair" for each match mean one game split into two days? I thought it was going to be two full games like Tournament finals. Thursday with DJ! and FJ! will complete one game. Friday will be a full game of J!, DJ! and FJ! to make it a second game. At that point the total from g...

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games
Right, their game, their rules. But I am inclined to agree that the two aspects of Final ought to be inseparable and if one is played by only one player then the other should be, too. If teams actually got a chance to consult after seeing the Final category, that means they could also play mental M...

If that's true (and I have no reason to doubt you), then TPTB decided to do it that way. It's their game and they make the rules.seaborgium wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 5:28 pmMy understanding is that the teams would meet to discuss FJ wagering.

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games
It just occurred to me today that the player you want answering final Jeopardy might not be the player you want making the strategic/wagering decision. It made me wonder if the players are separated/sequestered from their own teammates between rounds. My guess would be that this is likely the case....

I simply uploaded the most convenient photo of myself that I could reach in a few clicks. I happened to be wearing a suit and tie though the photo was a few (maybe 5?) years old. I briefly considered uploading a photo of my collection of J! pens from the years. I don't have one from every time I did...

Am I a jerk if I rooted against Michael because of the proposal? I just intensely dislike public proposals, especially on TV or on the Jumbotron at a ballgame. In this specific incident it also felt like the act of someone who was overconfident that they would win. Maybe I'm projecting but I wouldn...

My knowledge of the line of British royalty isn't great, but I do know the order from Victoria to the present (if not all the years), and it was easy to determine that the clue was simply looking for who took the throne after Victoria. Hold on there, Quickdraw! I also immediately thought it would h...

Buster Brown may have been obscure to you, but it's not at all obscure to someone my age (maybe 25 years older than you are). I saw endless Buster Brown commericals as a kid with him and his dog Tige. I’m Buster Brown; I live in a shoe. That’s my dog Tige— He lives in there, too. Advice to prospect...
